  25. In my current role as a Sales Executive, I’ve had to use all of these skill set. Communication and negotiation is a day-dqy affair, time management too…all of them.
I communicate effectively although I still think I need to level up in that area and time management too as procrastination has slowly crept in🤧

  26. All skills are as important to effectively and efficiently pull a project through. In my most recent role as a librarian, I made use of all the skills as they enabled me meet clients demand and engage well with the users.

  27. As front desk officer, communications ,time management and ethics /standards are very important.
You relate to your customer at specified TAT (turn around time )
Having in mind the ethics and standard of the Organisation you are working for

I will really love to skill up in areas of Negotiations in order to meet up with the strategies and tactics of negotiations.

But I would say I know I need to learn about the regulatory environment and ethics/standard of the profession which should be part of my continuous learning.

  30. For me,all matters a lot but communications, time management and negotiation skills are one to be mastered by any aspiring project manager.

These three are the basics I need to improve upon as a project manager. Others skills too are very important, also the need for continuation of professional development shouldn’t be underestimated.

  33. All six skills are essential and apply to my job role as a QSR manager. They are crucial to my day-to-day outlet operations. However, to become a successful project manager I need to pay more attention and emphasis on Time management and Communication skills.

Communication: Effective communication enhances productivity and promote Team work. It improves customer service and clients relationship, classifiers thoughts, saves time and boost stakeholders confidence. This skill among others for me, is one of the key to successfully manage a project because any little unclear information can change the entire scope of your project. I pass information to my team and follow through to ensure that it is cascaded down to the larger house for fear of mishap which may not be the best approach. However, I Intend to continue to improve on this skill through continuing professional development and listening to Team members who may have better ideas of how to communicate effectively.

Time Management: In the course of multitasking as my job role demands, I sometimes get overwhelmed with controlling time spent on various activities which may affect maximization of productivity and efficiency.
I have actively taken steps to setting realisable time frame using the Eisenhower matrix and focus on high priority task first.

I would appreciate your suggestions on how I can further improve on the skills mentioned.

  34. Each of these skills are important. But the most essential for me as a sales person is the communication and negotiation skills.

An excellent communication skill helps me to actively listen to my customer, know what they want or their pain-point, and then know how best to channel and tailor my sales pitch to suit those need. these is the basis to making them interested in what you have to offer.

Also the negotiation skills is one which i perfectly use to get the needed payment for the value my product is offering. By communicating the advantages, benefits and problems which my product solve, I then use my negotiating skill to get the payment done seamlessly without much hassle.

The skill which i will look into is the continuing professional development. Every skill or profession has new things that emerges always. I will endeavor to always be on the look out for new trends, upgrade when necessary and make sure I’m on board with new trends always.

    1. Communication: This is one of my strongest skills. In customer support, I communicate clearly and empathetically with customers to resolve issues, while in event planning, I ensure vendors, clients, and my team are all on the same page. I believe this is an area where I excel.
    2. Negotiation: I’m often in situations where I need to negotiate. Whether it’s calming down an upset customer or securing the best deals from vendors for an event, I feel comfortable here. However, I could always refine my skills to become even more effective, especially when dealing with high-stakes negotiations.
    3. Time management: This is critical in both of my roles, and I manage my time well, balancing multiple deadlines. In customer support, timely responses matter, and in event planning, meeting deadlines for bookings and setup is key. I do a good job, but there’s always room for improvement in prioritizing when unexpected challenges arise.
    4. Knowledge of the regulatory environment: I feel this is a gap I need to work on. For customer support, staying updated on data protection laws is important, and for event planning, I need to be more familiar with permits, health, and safety regulations, especially for larger or more complex events.
    5. Ethics and standards: I always strive to maintain high standards in my work, whether it’s handling customer issues with integrity or ensuring I’m transparent with my clients and vendors during event planning. This is something I deeply value.

In customer support, I could benefit from learning more about advanced CRM systems, and for event planning, it would be helpful to explore event tech and project management tools more deeply.

    Skill Gaps and Actions:

    • Regulatory knowledge: I plan to take courses or attend workshops on data protection laws and event regulations, particularly focusing on legal requirements that affect my work.

  61. As a construction project manager in my organisation, all the outlined skill sets mentioned in this course and many more are important to the success of my operation. I
have an academic background in architecture and construction management. Let me briefly explain how each skill contributes to project deliveries………..

Communication- From design stages to handing over, communication is important. The Client must understand and be satisfied with the design before approval. The project team must also have detailed information which must be communicated to them in every form possible to perform their tasks effectively towards the end goal. Communication is the bedrock of project management……….

Negotiation- This skill is vital in achieving win-win success outcomes in project management. It helps keep the project within the budget, quality and satisfactory outcome………..

Time management- This is a skill that showcases the leadership strength of a project manager. To exhibit this skill, leadership skills must be formed to drive and manage time. It takes leadership skills in a manager to drive a project team towards delivering the project within a time frame. Except in a few cases where machines would be employed to perform a particular task, human beings would be required to carry out tasks on the project site. Another aid to time management is the ability to adopt appropriate training and technologies- hard and soft. I need more knowledge in this aspect which I hope to achieve through this bootcamp training…………

Knowledge of the regulatory environment- This is necessary to avoid running the project against statutory orders. A project manager must be versed in government regulations and environmental requirements on a particular project. Lack of this skill has led many projects to be abandoned or collapsed……..

Ethics and standards- This skill provides safety and operational guides for a project manager. This is where the expertise of the manager is graded and guarded. Adherence to ethics and standards amplifies the uniqueness of a project outcome……..

Continuing professional development- A project manager must keep learning and unlearning always to stay fit and perform excellently. Continuous professional and personal development is an added value which keeps us competitive and unique. Project management has a broader scope of knowledge even outside one’s field of education. Also, CPD has become necessary because of the unprecedented growth in technological advancement, innovation, discovery and research……..

  152. Having worked as Floor Manager in a retail store,I had a lot of sales representatives who were my direct subordinate, who needed my directions to be able to carry out Thier daily tasks. All of the aforementioned roles applied to me because it was part of my daily routines .

    COMMUNICATIONS.
I needed to communicate to the sales representatives on how to Carry out their duties effectively, communication is also expected to be timely as it gives timely and effective.

However an effective communication is one that is clearly stated and understood.

    NEGOTIATION.
In as much as I am the term lead, there is also room to negotiate with my sales representatives as to when it is convenient for them to carry out their given task not inpossing on them but also ensuring that the task is done.

    TIME MANAGEMENT.
This is another factor that was very essential as a team lead because,I had to give the sales representatives time to carry out their task but as well supervise them to ensure that the task is done within the time frame that stipulated for it.ensuring that no stone is left unturned.

    KNOWLEDGE OF THE REGULATIORY ENVIRONMENT..
Aside from the fact that the shop floor attendants had to constantly merchandise their various products on the shelf, there were several rules and regulations guiding the establishment, which I ensued that they all adhered to.

  153. My last role was in sales, not directly a project manager but had aspects of it which was quite interesting. Well, it cut across all the areas so I would give my take on all of them.
Communication: it is very vital because, everyone involved in a project need clarity on what the end goal is in other to work effectively.
Negotiation: ”quid pro quo”, something for something. It is important to note that every transaction should be mutually beneficial so a PM would need to understand the importance of finding common ground in negotinegotiating .
Time management: any goal without a time frame is not a goal but a wish. Time creates urgency and that can be a motivating factor to a team in doing a job.
Knowledge of the regulatory environment: having information about the environment you are stepping into is key, it allows for better navigation through out the project.
Ethics and standard: sometimes, it is just a thin line between right and wrong so a Pm has to be cautious of this to avoid legal challenges especially.
Continuing professional development: good, better, best, perfect and so on. There is always room for improvement so never settlr for where you are otherwise those who are evolving continuously would flush you out of the system.
    Thank you.

  154. All the above listed points are important to me as a civil engineer, but some are more important than others and I would focus on the more important ones in my discussion.

    * Communication: Clearly conveying complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences is crucial for successful project execution.
Thus communication is very important to me as a civil engineer in order to drive home assigned projects successfully.

    * Time Management: Civil engineering projects are often large-scale and involve multiple stakeholders. Strong time management skills ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. Therefore, like the saying, time is money, I pay more attention to project completion time while at the same time following procedures and maintaining standards.

    * Understanding the regulatory environment: Civil engineers must navigate a complex web of regulations to ensure projects comply with safety and environmental standards. Each and every countries, regions, province have their regulations and standards including general regulations in construction industry as a guide to effectively carry out construction process and standards.
The above discussed skills can be improved by taking the following steps:

    * Communication: Take a communication skills course or workshop. Practice active listening and public speaking.

    * Time Management: Utilize project management tools and techniques. Create clear deadlines and milestones for projects.

    * Regulatory environment: Stay up-to-date on the latest regulations by attending industry seminars or workshops.

Time Management: Managing the schedules of multiple projects simultaneously requires excellent time management skills. Prioritizing tasks and ensuring deadlines are met is a daily challenge that I must navigate efficiently.

For the financial implications, many things ought to be weighed based on the availability of resources and the kind of project in question.

Time Management: Keeping to time helps bring more clients. Time management also involves being punctual. This helps give hope and life to your clients. Delivery of project on time is a whole ticket to have more potential clients.

As a project manager, effective communication is crucial to ensure project success. However, I have identified some skill gaps in my communication skills that need improvement:

    1. *Clear Articulation of Project Goals*: I sometimes struggle to clearly articulate project goals and objectives to team members, stakeholders, and clients. This can lead to misunderstandings and misaligned expectations.

    2. *Active Listening*: I recognize that I need to improve my active listening skills to better understand the concerns and needs of team members, stakeholders, and clients.

    3. *Timely Feedback*: I often delay providing feedback to team members, which can hinder their progress and motivation.

I work as Operations Manager in the Telecom Infrastructure Company. In that role I am expected to interface with the customer, contracting company. I am to communicate with them by sharing planned maintenance, giving progress reports, blocks and seeking their support when needed.

I have to come realize building relationships can help avoid confrontations and tone down on negative feedback to contracting company’s management and aid communication thereby reducing conflict which comes as a result of misunderstanding of intentions between my team and their team. It is all about being seen as the team that is making their life easier and helping them achieve set goals and targets and this cannot be achieved accept the teams are clear on what the goals and targets are and what is good performance is. This can only be achieved constant communication during the life cycle of the project at hand.

Negotiation is another of my key responsibility.
I am required to negotiate for my organization.
It is not easy task finding a balance between reasonable cost and acceptable quality.
Sometimes the other team feels and accuses you of just being after profit.
But in as much as I want my customers to be satisfied, I had to remind myself that part of that is also giving them the quality they need which costs money. Bearing in mind that the repair or refurbishment must last a minimum of ninety(90) days or we are required to fix it at our cost and the negative image it will give us.

I can improve on this if I have more one on one conversation with team members to address issues that might likely pose a problem in future if left unattended to.
I should have more frequent meetings with them for appraisal of our strength and weakness as a team, and to brainstorm for progress.
To be successful in the aforementioned, I would need to improve in my relationship with them individually as that goes a long way to foster cooperation and understanding.

  270. Considering these six areas where a project manager needs to develop their skills. My job requires me to have Communication, Time management, Knowledge of the regulatory environment, Ethics and standards

  272. As a construction manager, all the mentioned project management skills are critical to successfully oversee and complete construction projects.
Communication is vital for coordinating with various project stakeholders. Clear instructions and regular updates ensure everyone is aligned with the project goals and objectives. Negotiation skills are crucial for discussing contracts, managing disputes, securing materials at the best prices, and ensuring favourable terms with subcontractors and suppliers. Effective time management ensures the project stays on schedule, meets deadlines, and efficiently coordinates the sequence of construction activities. Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, zoning laws, and environmental regulations is critical to ensuring compliance and avoiding legal issues. Adhering to ethical practices and industry standards ensures quality, safety, and integrity in all project dealings. This includes fair treatment of workers and honesty in financial matters. Keeping abreast of new construction methods, materials, technologies, and management practices helps improve efficiency and project outcomes.
However, there is a need to improve communication, negotiation, and time management skills. While generally strong, there could be gaps in adapting communication styles to different stakeholders or in utilising modern communication technologies such as BIM effectively. Further development might be needed in advanced negotiation techniques, especially in high-stakes or complex contract negotiations. Although crucial, there could be gaps in optimising project scheduling software or handling unexpected delays and resource reallocation efficiently, as a delay in a project timeline results in increased costs and damages the reputation of the project team.
