Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.
To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.
Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.
The technology of the world is making the world a small place to work in but considering the political and cultural perspectives make bring about diversity in the work but a project manager should be able to bring all there together as then find a common ground in order to achieve his goal for the completion of the project.
The world keep changing and new updates and upgrades emerge every minute and day. My understanding of the technology world has kept me relevant and the awareness of how dynamic the tech world can be is a constant reminder that I must stay relevant by keeping myself updated so I can effortlessly flow with the tech world’s tide.
Technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, requires organisations to adjust, be flexible, to be adaptable,to be innovate, and be more socially and environmentally responsible. It encourage flexible projects inorder to incorporate new technologies.
Technology has impacted positively in my project. With the help of technology, I can track and monitor the works going at the site. Competition has forced my team and I to go extra mile in discharging our duties to keep us at the top. Moreover, social and political changes has made my efforts easier. The current government policies have made my project to move smoothly.
Finally, the environmental problems have been affecting my project. The flooded area by water has made my work difficult.

Changes brought about by technology, competition, and socio-political and environmental factors can affect organizations and their projects in several ways, such as the speed of project execution, the increased need/ability to manage limited resources, the effect of new laws that may change the organization’s operations, and civil societies pushing for environmental awareness. All these can cause a delay in the projected completion date of any project.
A project manager should be able to factor in possible changes and their effect on the project and look for ways to make sure that the deviation from his/her schedule is brought to the barest minimum.
Change is inevitable. Sometimes it could be good and sometimes it could be otherwise. One thing a project manager should always do is to be battle ready for any thing.
Global issue: the world is experiencing rapid and unpredictable change. A smart project manager would quickly shift to accommodate d change.
New technology: Be versatile, so you aren’t left behind.
Social and political upheaval: Most counties, politics drive the economy and this has great impact on projects.
Environmental crisis: if any environment isn’t conducive, project would be difficult to initiate and execute.
Project manager must just be up to date and be battle ready, as a lot could affect project. Be ready to face any challenge and be on top.
Global issues would influence my company and the project am working on. Let’s take for instance, Government change, this comes with change of policies like new tax rates which can be negative or positive.
Competition can affect some decisions made for the project, maybe amendment of the budget to create better innovations
Social changes like interaction with people and the environment can affect the project positively or negatively.
Technology advancement is great but the company has to make series of adjustmens like switching to the new technology, advanced learning and upgrades which would not be acquired at cheap rates.
Therefore, global issues has its influence on the company and the project.
Major global changes like technology, environmental problems, competition e.t.c are important factors that must be considered, as how they are implemented or used can affect an organization or a project negatively or positively.
1. **Technology**: Rapid advancements in technology can create both opportunities and challenges for organizations. Embracing new technologies can lead to increased efficiency, improved processes, and enhanced products or services. However, failure to adapt to new technologies can result in obsolescence and loss of competitiveness.
2. **Competition**: Increasing competition, both locally and globally, can put pressure on organizations to differentiate themselves and provide unique value propositions. Organizations may need to continuously innovate and improve to stay ahead of competitors and attract customers.
3. **Social and Political Change**: Changes in societal values, consumer preferences, and government regulations can impact how organizations operate. Companies may need to adjust their strategies, products, and messaging to align with changing social norms and comply with new regulations.
4. **Environmental Crisis**: Environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, and resource depletion can have direct and indirect effects on organizations. Businesses may face increased scrutiny from consumers, investors, and regulators to adopt sustainable practices and reduce their environmental footprint.
The world is changing rapidly and experiencing unpredictable situations which makes managing projects even more complex.
Understanding the complexity and ambiguity of the changing world and been to adapt to these changes will help project managers deliver projects successfully.
Understanding global changes and the new learning the technology that are related to project management will help protect managers blend with the changes and challenges.
A project manager should be conversant with the political terrain, regulations , environmental risks, etc where he is managing the project. He has the responsibilities of making sure he adheres to the government regulations regarding the project, and also the environment to successfully accomplished the project. He needs to keep himself abreast with trends of development in technology and the fierce competition so that he can be armed to know how deal with to successfully deliver the project.
Global change and complexities is part of the circle of life. History has recorded different times, where society suffered drastic changes, which some of them were good and some were bad for humans. It’s a natural order of life, the earliest we accept this the more quickly we adapt. In the business space, and in the project Management niche, we must develop grit and growth mindset, every complexity if properly managed can be a lesson and also an opportunity to leverage on. Take for instance, the global pandemic that occured in 2020, many companies went under, during such hard times, however some companies were able to hold out the storm, by leveraging on an already existing niche, previously known as work from home day, now widely recognized as remote work or virtual Assistant, this is what I mean by leverage. Many never knew some skills they archived was them sitting on Gold mines, the pandemic presented a complexity, they saw an opportunity and then they leveraged to stay afloat. Develop a mindset that sees complexities as natural this will help you replace anxiety with curiosity, research and problem solving.
As a project manager, it’s essential to consider how global factors impact your organization and projects. Here’s a concise breakdown of key influences:
1. Technology: With constant advancements, staying current with new project management tools can boost efficiency. Managing change is also critical as teams adapt to new tech.
2. Globalization: Diverse, global teams demand stronger communication and collaboration strategies. Additionally, global competition affects project scope, so understanding market trends helps in strategic planning.
3. Social and Political Shifts: Regulatory changes can affect project plans. It’s important to engage stakeholders and adapt to evolving social and political expectations.
4. Environmental Crisis: Sustainability is becoming a priority in projects. Risk management is also key, especially considering environmental threats like natural disasters.
5. Uncertainty and Volatility: Agile methodologies help maintain flexibility in unpredictable environments. Quick, informed decision-making is crucial as situations change rapidly.
By understanding these factors, you can manage your projects more effectively, align with organizational goals, and stay ahead of external challenges.
Thinking about complexity as a Project Manager (PM) involves identifying recognizing, analyzing, and addressing the intricate relationships, uncertainties, and dynamics within a project to achieve positive results.
My organisation is responding positively to some of these new technologies and innovations. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, has improved my organization and the projects we are involved.
Technology has come to redefine how we operate generally, even as a project manager, one would perform excellently well adopting the appropriate technology viz-a-viz understanding and taking advantage of the prevailing environmental challenges.
Technology ensures we remain competitive and relevant in business while opening doors for more innovations and better ways to provide quality services. It enhances our productivity and values which are key to sustainable business.

The effect of these complexities on organizations and their projects cannot be overemphasized, which leads to the employment of the methodology that will fit with the concern. Ranging from rapid technological advancement, which brought about unprecedented growth in digital transformation projects with competition, to environmental challenges, which pose much threat to humanity, thereby increasing the sustainability growth projects with a combination of methodologies to achieve a successful result.
Being flexible and adaptable to changes helps in the success of projects as a Project Manager.
Global issues are intertwined and play a vital role in determining the path of society. For example, the raise in fuel price leads to raise of transportation cost which leads to raise of food cost which leads to the raise of everything else. Taking into cognizance the issues practically influencing society helps the project manager set realistic goals and expectations.
In today’s rapidly evolving world, the global issues we face—such as new technology, international competition, social and political upheavals, and environmental challenges—have a profound impact on project management. In my experience, these factors deeply influence the types of projects we take on and the methodologies we choose to implement.
For example, technology advancements drive a need for projects centered around digital transformation, requiring us to stay ahead of trends. These projects are often uncertain due to the fast-paced evolution of tech, making agile methodologies particularly effective. Agile allows for quick iterations and adaptability, which is critical when working with new and untested technology.
Global competition also shapes our approach. Companies must innovate rapidly to remain competitive, which adds pressure to complete projects faster and with greater efficiency. This can sometimes push us toward more linear, waterfall approaches, especially for projects with clearly defined requirements, but agile techniques help us pivot quickly when the competitive landscape shifts unexpectedly.
In terms of social and political disturbances, we’ve encountered delays or changes in project scope due to regulatory changes or political instability. Managing these uncertainties requires a hybrid approach, blending agile’s flexibility with waterfall’s structured risk management strategies to ensure we can react to these changes without sacrificing project integrity.
Finally, environmental concerns are increasingly influencing project priorities, pushing us to focus on sustainability. Environmental regulations, along with internal sustainability goals, are shaping the way we plan and execute projects. Often, we use a combination of agile for innovation in developing sustainable solutions and waterfall for regulatory compliance to ensure we meet all environmental standards.
Navigating these complexities means understanding the context of each project and choosing the right blend of methodologies—no one approach fits all situations. I’m interested in hearing how others balance these global factors in their projects!

Industries are increasing in efficiency and creating new opportunities due to the advancement of technology. These have also brought challenges like cybersecurity threats and the urge to learn and adapt to the present environment. A lot of improvements have been made in project management with the integration of modern technology but in other ways needs strong data protection measures.
The hike in price of goods and service in this present world can affect the project work eg,the quality and delivery of the project work
Social and political upheaval in Africa has significantly impacted development projects in this region. This includes changes in political power leading to abandoned public projects and creating opportunities for corruption in the absence of effective monitoring and accountability.
The global economic crisis is dealing with every sector of the world not leaving out that of project management. The rise in cost can sometimes cause a team to reduce the quality of a particular project. In the long run, be chaotic for everyone associated with that particular project.

In my niche (event) the issue of inflation is showing is impact, venue for corporate, family and social events are on the rising which causes uncertainty and instability in handling and secured a suitable venue .
Technology on the other , in my experience has helped increase reach to prospects clients globally which is an added an advantage but also increased influx of competitors in same industry.

The economic crisis right now is really affecting the progress of the company, and causes a lot of set back especially in finances
The economic crisis going on in the country is affecting the way the finances of the company, frequent fluctuations and inflation of commodities also
The global issues we are mostly affected by are, inflation, change in government policies and rapid innovative technology. As a result of that we have to be adaptive as the changes occur which affects the organization in many ways.
Global issues such as new technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental crises have varied impacts on the organization.
The emergence of new technology has enhanced swift workflow and allowed for remote work settings. Hence, workers can be engaged from any part of the world and communication is much easier through advanced communication tools. However, technology such as AI has led to redundancy and loss of manpower in many organizations.
The influx of competition affects organizations because more businesses are pursuing few, clients, thereby flouting ethics and principles and this can affect quality output.
Social and political changes are the bane of business and project instabilities today. The high rate of inflation and currency devaluation has shut down many organizations and projects because they could not meet up with demands. Unfavorable government policies on businesses also have adverse effects on organizations and project
Also, Environmental crises like insecurity and natural disasters has collapsed the economy, making it unattractive for investors and also forcing many businesses out of existence.
As a Market research organization, we are challenged by the above factors because most foreign clients are losing interest in the Nigerian market and this makes the business to be less viable.

In 2020 the whole world was brought to a standstill because of coronavirus. As an organization will have to mark out several projects to undertake that same only for Corovi to come and stop all that.
As a Nigerian living in Nigeria, i will start with the issue of inflation. Prices of products are currently unstable which causes uncertainty and instability in handling projects.
Government policies also affect projects, due to change in policies by the new government administration lots of ongoing projects get stucked and many companies left devastated.
Technology on the other hand, in my experience has helped increase reach of clients globally which is an advantage, but it also increased competition as more people are leveraging on the power of technology leading to influx of competitors.
Nkechi Izeji. Cohort 18 Team 6.
The increasing rise of inflation in Nigeria is actually affecting budget causing a lot of uncertainty when budgeting for a project and tension while carrying out a project.
Secondly, stringent government policies affects successful planning and carrying out a project.
Last but not the least, influx of competitors is also a major challenge when planning and carrying out a project due to the depletion of market share.
as someone working in a health sector, those decision can impact on the methodology used in patient care and some policies that would improve service delivery and leading to better patient care and satisfaction
As someone working in the tech space, these global issues can disrupt existing business models and projects, create new opportunities for growth and innovation. It may bring about a requirement for adaptability and resilience, it can also impact talent acquisition and retention, and influence the organization’s reputation and social responsibility.
Haven been said we operate in a technological world which affect every other aspect like the social, environmental and even politically which in relation to a project manager a lack of effective communication can affect an entire project plan.
The technological impact project management will have in a fast developing era would influence integration of data, facilitate communication, coordinate resources more effectively, and even, evaluate performance in real-time.
By Competition; knowing your ingredients. There should be a unique tool about a project manager to make them stand out.
Project Management revolves in all sphere, as it is all around us and continue will be, as longs as human is still in existence.
In our fast-changing world, big global issues like technology growth, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems directly affect how organizations run their projects. From my perspective as an Operations Assistant intern, I have observed how few factors shape project management.
Technology: New tools and software can make operations smoother but also need ongoing learning. For instance, adopting new project management software can improve communication and task distribution, but teams must take time to adjust.
Competition: Rising global competition pushes organizations to complete projects quicker and with better quality. This often leads to tighter deadlines and a constant need for innovation.
Social and Political Changes: New regulations or shifts in public opinion can change project directions. For example, projects may need to adapt to updated labor laws or respond to customer demands for more eco-friendly practices.
Environmental Challenges: Concerns about climate change often lead projects to implement sustainable practices, like minimizing waste or using green materials. This can influence project scope, timelines, and budgets.
All these global factors add complexity to project management, requiring organizations to be adaptable and flexible in their approaches.
In this rapid changing world, we have to bear in our mind that every organization or projects will be facing challenges.
So, those challenges will affect my organization and my projects because of the globalization. For instance, wars between countries may cause the increasing of goods prices because ships will use longer ways to send them from one country to another. Also, the rapid changing of technology may affect the operations in my organization and my projects if employees do not have any update or trainings in relation to.
In short, the big global issues could affect my organization and projects directly or indirectly because of the globalization but, we have to get ready to face those challenges for reaching our goals.
Talking about the issue of technology,we are now in the era of Artificial intelligence in which literally companies are equipping Ai with necessary data to carry out the work effectively and likewise organization needs to follow the present day trend in getting their services acceptable which requires new form of technology available to get the work done, that becomes a really pressure on project managers assigned to the task or project because they need speed up with the latest trend and catch up with it which can be a very difficult issues for project managers. Also in the area of politics,a new government comes in but the organisation budget for new project are already in place under the leadership of the previous government and the new government coming into place may enact a law which could increase the price of resources, thereby cause the initial budget for both my organization and me as the project manager disrupted as a result on the increase in price of resources expected to execute the project and thereby causing the organization and I to return back to the drawing board and restartegize, the time slated for the project is disrupted and likewise the plan.
Involvement of beneficiaries as stakeholders in decision making to I make the project success because the understand social, economic and environmental needs.
Including beneficiaries as stakeholders in decision making is very crucial the critically know the causes and effects of the social economic and environmental problems
A Project has to do with the environmentand the people are also the stakeholders so it has everything to do with humanity and everything that affects it and not in isolation. So Global issues and event impacts or effects plays its role in project management
Global issues such as technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis significantly impact organizations and projects:
1. **Technology**: Advances in technology drive innovation and efficiency but can also disrupt existing business models, requiring ongoing adaptation and investment in cybersecurity and skills.
2. **Competition**: Global competition pressures organizations to innovate, improve customer experiences, and manage pricing strategies, all while maintaining profitability.
3. **Social and Political Change**: Shifts in regulations and societal expectations, such as the emphasis on diversity and inclusion, require organizations to adapt to maintain relevance and compliance.
4. **Environmental Crisis**: Growing demands for sustainability and stricter regulations push organizations to adopt greener practices, which may involve significant changes in supply chains, production, and resource management.

In the construction industry where I work, technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and environmental emergency stands as a major threat and opportunity to the industry. Newer technology has led to the ease of operation by means of modern tools and machinery, and at the same time led to loss of job for some workers, which can affect our relationship with host community. Also, software and applications have greatly aided in the design and simulation of structures before construction proper, this reduces time loss and structural error/defects. Often time, meetings are held virtually, and information and decisions communicated promptly at a reduced cost.
World trade and competition has led to increase in company’s capacity and ability to access bigger and wider market for profit maximization, innovative ideas from employees have won them a great deal in the organization. Continuous personal development for engineers and project managers has attracted big wages for them and has help them keep their jobs.
However, social and political disturbances is a big threat to the project. Compulsory utilization of locals in project execution, CSR/MOU with host communities, multiple taxation, poor road network for logistics, inconsistence with government financial policies, insecurity and high exchange rate regime, government failure to properly regulation capital market, manufacturing of substandard products and more are a list of burdens that threatens our project daily.
Environmental emergency like flooding affects the project completion time and most cases lead to damages in equipment worth billions of naira.
These are the major challenges the project and the project manager encounter on daily basis.
Thank you.

Working in the health sector, has exposed me to certain issues that affect the industry like access to social media and its misuses. People now diagnose and treat themselves without seeking professional opinion. Also environmental factors like proximity, awareness and financial constraints have significantly affected my industry as people no long see the need to visit healthcare facilities for treatments.
As someone in the construction industry technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and environmental emergency have greatly impacted my profession both positively and negatively. Newer technology have led to ease of operation by means of modern tools and machinery. Also software and applications have greatly aided in the design of structures. Meetings can now be held virtually and information and decisions communicated promptly.
World trade and competition has led to increased paycheck for some engineers due to the disparity in exchange rates, and from time to time engineers and project managers need to obtain further certifications and trainings in order to keep their jobs.
Sadly, social and political disturbances have brought about a negative impact. Social disturbances have led to destruction of structures and social amenities, which took millions of naira to erect. Political upheavals too have created similar results. Environmental emergency like erosions and flooding have ravaged so many parts of our country resulting in damages to infrastructure. The project manager constantly battles with these challenges in the discharge of his duties.

In every organisation there are always these big issues affecting organisations and projects. There is always issue of technology, where we have the shareholders or the board members have their meetings in the office, but now meetings are done via zoom.
There is also competition, now advertisement is done on social media.
Organisations needs to adapt to all these changes so as to meet up with the stakeholders.
In event management and planning, technology has transformed a lot of things, physical meetings are no longer necessary as in the past. Now most meetings, communication and deliberations with the stakeholders can be done over a computer.
Competition: Advertisement can now be run on social media spaces, old and new clients can keep up with the organization’s latest innovations in designs and decorations.
Social and political changes: socially new trends are being introduced in fashion, decorations, food etc… these trends sometimes have positive effects
Politically some policies have been implemented e.g spraying of the naira note is now banned in events, event organizers have to look for innovative ways of helping celebrants receive these cash gifts… innovations like the cash box, dummy notes were created
Environmentally, organizers have learnt to collaborate with proper waste management teams to minimize improper waste disposal after events.. use of biodegradable packaging materials for food, drinks, gift items etc.. is now encouraged in events.

As a healthcare provider with experience in both the government and private sectors, global changes such as technology, competition, socio-political changes as well as environmental crises have significantly imparted my industry in the following ways:
Technology is transforming healthcare globally, from electronic health records to AI-assisted diagnosis. However, in Nigeria, we are still facing challenges in implementation, inadequate infrastructure, and limited digital literacy. These hurdles can be overcome by partnering with technology companies and training healthcare staff.
Globalization is also making waves in healthcare, bringing new opportunities and challenges. We are seeing international collaborations and competitions from global companies, but we’re struggling to maintain market share due to limited resources and infrastructures. These can be circumvented if we partner with these global companies, explore opportunities for growth in emerging markets, innovation, and adapting our strategies to meet local needs.
Social and political changes, like shifting policies and regulations, are also affecting healthcare projects. These changes can be navigated by staying agile and adaptable. Policy changes must be continuously monitored, and strategies adjusted to ensure compliance. Healthcare equity should be prioritized recognising that it is a fundamental human right.
Lastly, the environmental crisis is pushing healthcare organizations to reduce their carbon footprint. In Nigeria, however, there are still significant sustainability challenges due to inadequateinfrastructureand resources. These can be addressed by reducing reducing energy consumption and implementing recycling programs.
Overall, my organisation can overcome these challenges by proactively adapting to these issues, recognising that they present opportunities for growth, innovation, and improved patient care. By embracing technology, collaboration, and sustainability, we are positioning ourselves for success in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
1. Technology: Rapid technological advancements, such as automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, are transforming business operations, presenting both opportunities and challenges for companies.
2. Competition: The global marketplace is growing more competitive, with businesses from all over the world competing for market share. Organizations must maintain a careful eye on their competition and be willing to change their approach in order to remain useful.
3. Social and Political changes: Organizations must adapt to social and political developments such as diversity and inclusion, activism, and government policies in order to meet the requirements of stakeholders.
4. Environmental problems: Organizations are prioritizing sustainability efforts to address environmental challenges like climate change, minimizing energy consumption, and producing eco-friendly products to avoid long-term disadvantages as customer views shift.

I work in the transport and logistics industry wherein we are constantly faced with technological advancement and competition. These global factors for a while greatly impacted my organization negatively as, we were not able to meet up with the growing demands in the industry.
In order to tackle the challenge, with proper consultation with the major stakeholders, we had to embark on several sessions which will be able bring us to speed with the latest developments
Switch to technology to improve complex processes makes the opportunities available but the complexities and difficulties of learning new skills are to be faced squarely to always be relevant.
Global changes such as technology, competition, social and political changes and environmental crises has affected my profession as a virtual assistant is the following ways:
Technology: This so far has had a positive impact of my profession and technology such as the invention of various apps and Ai tools have made working more seamless and efficient for VA’s.
Competition: The advancement in technology has equipped many VA’s to be experts and proficient in their jobs leading to competition, this has in turn caused job scarcity.
3)Social: The world has indeed become a global village, this has a positive impact on my profession as we connect and work with clients across continents, hold meetings across the globe, technology as a global change has made it possible for a job as “Virtual Assistant” to exist.
4) Political changes: Unfavorable government policies within my country and even across the globe has caused economic instability and inflation leading to a high demand for virtual assistants especially since companies now want to cut cost for in-house staffing.
5) Environmental crises: I can’t really think of how this has affected VA’s but I know how much the health crises; Covid-19 led to the high demand and creation of remote jobs including VA jobs.

Change they say is constant and inevitable and as such in my field technology, competition, social, political change and environmental crisis has affected in one way or the other. In technology there has been increased access to information and resources and also online learning platforms and courses just like Deca
In the social aspect there has been increased focus on inclusivity and diversity while there has been political changes and reforms , funding and budgeting constraints and all these have led to evolving curriculum and instructional methods.
Using my current organization as a case study enhanced technology has been of great impact to the productivity of the organization. Looking at political factors, some newly introduced government policies have been hindering the organization’s productivity. Several clients have closed their businesses in the country hereby leaving some staffs unemployed and the company running at loss
Thinking about big global issues like technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis, here’s how they affect my organization and projects:
Technology
Technology changes everything. It brings new ways of doing things especially with the introduction of AI managing different areas of work, making work faster and better. and if you don’t keep up with the latest tools and software, Investing in new tech and training staff is a must to stay relevant, it will adversely affect your growth
Competition
More players and products flooding the market space means we must up our game, knowing their pain points and using that as our USP. We need to stand out with unique offerings, good pricing,
and top-notch customer service to keep our customers loyal.
Social and Political Change
Most laws like subsidy removal and increase in import duties affect every single thing about the running cost of projects, in most cases, clients begin to doubt your authenticity especially when it comes to materials sourcing, prices, and shift in budgeting as a result of these policies and also shifting social values can change how we operate.
the effect is We must follow new regulations and adapt to what society expects. Being flexible and quick to respond is key.
Environmental Crisis
Impact: Everyone is talking about going green and being sustainable.
Effect on Organization/Projects: We need to adopt eco-friendly practices and invest in green technologies. It’s not just about compliance but also about doing the right thing for the planet.
Technology
As a project manager it is very important technology plays a vital role on how i discharge your duties and obligations, giving the fact that new ways of doing things emerge technologically I need to evolve so that I can fit into the existing trend.
Competition
Having the mindset that project managers thrive in chaos as of our instructors mentioned earlier,I need to be aware and possibly research on the other companies or individuals who are involved in a similar project so that I find a better way to navigate instead of feeling threatened.
Considering the fact that Time management is a huge factor to be looked into before commencing a project, environmental crisis should be highly considered in order to determine the effectiveness of a project.
Social and political changes is another factor that can not be overlooked,as a project manager I must be willing to take though decision so as to ensure that my project is well delivered in terms of increasing the cost as social and political changes occurs. For instance the removal of fuel subsidy that took place recently in Nigeria which affected apparently the cost of everything to the apex, all of these should be factored in a great project manager.

The rapid pace of technology advancement requires us to consistently keep up with innovations on project management tools and skills.
As an Etiquette expertise, technology is gradually making the hands on practical seems outdated as many of the training can now be accessed online, this means I have to do something much different and catchy to have more clients knowing they can access some of this lessons online by paying little to nothing to acquire the knowledge.
As competition can be both positive and negative in a way, its enhance check mating, check and balancing, relating this to my company,I will say there lot of people who are into what we do and are showing it for free on some platform, this means,we that secured our must do something different to have more clients hence,we must be at the top of our game, competition created tension sort of,and its provokes reevaluation ,branding among others to stay atop and in business.
Considering the instability of govt policies and regulations and the imbalance social attitudes ,this often affect projects, there’s need to rest all waters, know the pros and cons, make survey and research up to date, collaborates where necessary and keep the line of communication opens to clients and team members.
Environmental crisis this can impact the effectiveness and efficiency of a project operations and delivery, environmental crisis must be critically considered during project planning and resources involved.
Knowing that most projects encounters the aforementioned global issues,a good project manager must be flexible, proactive and open minded to lead a project to a successful delivery.
Thinking about the big global issues like technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis, I realize that my organization and projects are indeed impacted. The rapid pace of technological advancements requires us to constantly adapt and update our project management tools and skills to stay ahead. Meanwhile, increasing competition forces us to re-evaluate our project priorities and resource allocation to remain competitive.
Social and political changes also affect our projects, as shifting regulatory environments and changing social attitudes require us to be more agile and responsive in our project planning and stakeholder engagement. Furthermore, the environmental crisis has made sustainability a key consideration in our project goals and outcomes, necessitating careful resource management and contingency planning.
Overall, these global issues demand that we be proactive, flexible, and innovative in our project management approach to ensure success and resilience in an ever-changing world.

These big global issues can significantly impact my organization and projects in various ways. For example:
A) Technology: Changes in technology can make our projects obsolete/ outdated or create new opportunities. E.g cybersecurity threats can compromise our data and systems which will require training from time to time.
B) Competition: Global competition can lead to increased pressure on costs, quality, and delivery of our projects.
C) Social and political change: Shifts or changes in government policies and regulations can impact our operations, making it difficult operate in some cases.
D)Environmental crisis: Climate change and environmental regulations can impact supply chains, resources, and operations.
But when we understand and address these global issues, it will help us to ensure that our organization and projects remain resilient, competitive, and sustainable.
As a healthcare provider working on a health establishment, I would say that Technology has really played a vital role and has brought about rapid change in our healthcare sector. The training and retraining of health workers as well as introduction of equipment/machines, has made work easier, faster and more accurate.
This has really helped to improve the Public Health generally.
Unfortunately, Political and economic conditions, has brought about the complexity and high cost of these equipments/machines and has made it difficult for some patients to access quality healthcare, as this has resulted to preventable deaths of a lot of people.

During the roofing stage of our building project, the client requested a change from long-span aluminum roofing sheets to stone-coated step tiles. This design alteration introduced complexity, necessitating additional resources:
– Purchasing stone-coated step tiles
– Acquiring more purloins
– Increasing the quantity of nails due to a revised nailing pattern
As a result, more resources were required to complete the roofing phase of the project.”
I had planned to embark farm some Beans on a piece of land last year and in the usual vain of preparation, seedlings were ready and the land had the prepared aswell. Planting is usually done towards the end of August when the rains are not so much but enough for the seedlings, when planted, to germinate, and when it seizes, the morning dew will provide moisture. Unfortunately, due to environmental changes, the rains stopped earlier than expected and there was hardly any dew for the beans to get moisture. This eventually led to a poor yield at the end of the day.
This environmental problem affected my project negatively.
As an Operations officer at a domestic airport terminal, I have overtime observed global issues impact airport operational activities in various ways.
Technology advances necessitates upgrades in security and efficiency.
Social and political changes a lot of times alter regulations of air travels agreements especially between airlines and its passengers.
Environmental concerns points to sustainable practices in aircraft emission control among others.
These factors collectively influence airport terminal operations, passenger experience, therefore demanding constant adaptation and review.
In the banking sector, global issues significantly impact our projects. Rapid technological advances offer innovation but pose cybersecurity risks. Globalization increases competition from international and fintech players, necessitating agile and strategic projects. Social and political changes, such as new regulations, can alter project scopes and timelines. Environmental concerns drive projects focused on sustainability, balancing eco-friendly goals with financial viability. Adapting to these factors ensures we stay competitive, compliant, and responsive to both market and regulatory shifts, making it crucial to integrate these global influences into project planning and execution.
In the company I work in, complexity is something we deal with usually because we need to always satisfy the customers and their needs. We deal with complexity in technology by always developing when the need arises. We’re living in a world where technology is always evolving and If companies cannot evolve too, then they’ll be left out and other companies that evolved would take over the market, which brungs us to “Competition”.
There are so many other ways,my company can deal with complexity,it is a very broad topic
Technology as an external factor can have a huge impact which could either be direct or indirect as it affects the lifecycle and cost of delivering a project. There would be reduction in cost as human resources might not be needed large number. Competition could also affect a project positively as it usually neccesitate giving a considerable attention to quality to enhance product consumption of goods and services. Environmental factors could also be positive or negative depending on the effect it holds at a time.
As someone new to the product management space, I will say that while working on a product two things might likely impact either positively or negatively on the success of launching a new product namely;
1. Technology: You need to keep up with trending tools and initiatives because you can only stay updated through education. Customers are becoming more technical and demand the newest technology on offer. This means that if a product or service provider fails to meet the expectations of his/her consumers, they can easily switch to other providers who do so. This means creating a more user-friendly web app that your users can be proud of using. Technological development brings along development in security threats in equal measure, so the security of the web app should come with the most recent to safeguard user’s data and privacy to make them stay on.
2. Competition: This is one issue that managers always put effort into while building a product in the sense that the success of a product comes with its unique feature that can make users want to stay on your web app to enjoy new things, so making that you have a competitive advantage is a thing to sell your solution.
These two in a product creation are most likely to take more time in bringing up because it will be the selling point of the product.
In any project, change is constant. A project manager must be able to manage changes in a project, ensure that the decision is accepted by the stakeholders, recorded for future reference and ensure that there is a baseline management with TIME, COST AND SCOPE

Dealing With Complexity As A Female Cobbler
-Globalization of trade and competition:
Increased competition from international shoe manufacturers and online retailers
Fluctuating material costs due to global market changes
Opportunities for international collaborations or exports, but also potential risks from global economic downturns
-Social and political upheavals:
Changing consumer behaviors and preferences due to social movements.
Potential disruptions to supply chains or operations due to political instability or protests
Opportunities to tap into social movements and create socially conscious products
Environmental crises:
Sourcing sustainable materials and reducing waste in your workshop Adapting to regulations or consumer demands for eco-friendly products
Potential supply chain disruptions due to environmental disasters
Additionally, as a female cobbler, you may face gender-specific challenges such as: Stereotyping or bias in a traditionally male-dominated industry
Balancing family or caregiving responsibilities with project demand
Leveraging your unique perspective and skills to innovate and differentiate your products.
The way these factors has affected my project can change, if I make the right decisions, having these factors in mind.
Change is inevitable, so in my organisation, we’ve established a research team to ensure we are updated with information that boosts our growth and client success, all while maintaining our organisation’s core values.

The effects of global issues in our today’s world cannot be over emphasis most especially in the case of managing a project in a complex world today. This means that some of the global issues resulting to technology, social and political changes, environmental crisis and competition plays both positive and negative roles in the aspect of managing a project.
The effect of technology helps to improve, make a proposed project work or run fast and smoothly in other words it may also serve as a negative effect as it creates ways for fraud through internet hijacking.
The effect of political change can help improve an ongoing or a proposed project due to change in government (power). While environmental crisis is prone to delay a project work in progress as a result of the condition of the situation be it positive or negatively.
Lastly choose a good environment to run a project work or manage a project is a very important factor to consider as it plays a vital role for conducive environment for good production output.
Big global issues such as technology, competition, social and political change, and environmental crisis are external factors that might impact a project or an organization positively or negatively. This factors must be taken into consideration when undertaking any form of project or even in an organization and it shape the decisions made during the course of it entirety. A lot of organizations today have leverage on technology today and it has fully maximize the functionality of every organization or even a project and one of the threat technology might possess can be redundancy as new innovations are being created everyday and even with the emergence of AI this has even make make some works not useful in the organization but since AI is still in it earliest stage people are getting to acclimatize with it and more people are making shift into the Tech space like what Dexa is doing for everyone.
Technology has played a very vital role in our society. Through the help of technology, there are software applications that are used to make work easier, faster and very accurate. But these applications still need experts to operate them. Aside getting professionals, there are both political, environmental and socio-economic issues that can cause complexities in any organization.
In some offices, there have been a lot of political and socio-economic factors affecting productivity and even the well-being of staff members. In such situations, a project will not be executed properly because of the complexities surrounding its execution. In such situations, its now the duty of the project manager to meet with his team to reflect on how a project can be executed, despite the complexities surrounding it.

3. Collaboration Opportunities: Collaboration with other organizations and institutions can bring in new perspectives, technologies, and best practices that can improve adherence counseling strategies.
Social Change
1. Stigma Reduction: Social changes that reduce stigma associated with certain diseases, such as HIV, can improve patients’ willingness to seek and adhere to treatment, making your counseling efforts more effective.
2. Community Engagement: Increased community awareness and engagement can support adherence programs by fostering a supportive environment for patients, encouraging them to stick to their treatment plans.
3. Behavioral Change: Shifts in social norms and behaviors, influenced by education and advocacy, can positively impact patients’ attitudes towards adherence and overall health management.
Political Change
1. Policy and Funding: Changes in health policies and government funding priorities can directly affect the resources available for adherence programs. Advocacy for supportive policies is crucial to ensure sustained support for such initiatives.
2. Regulatory Environment: Regulations related to healthcare delivery, patient privacy, and data security can influence how adherence programs are implemented and managed.
3. Health System Strengthening: Political commitment to strengthening health systems can lead to better infrastructure, more trained personnel, and improved access to essential medications, all of which support adherence counseling efforts.
Adapting to these changes and leveraging new opportunities can enhance the effectiveness of my work, ensuring better outcomes for the patients I serve.
As an aspiring project manager, complexity comes in different types. Technology may affect a project if it is not available, lacks skilled personnel to implement and operate it. Some social and political scenarios interfere with change which limits technological development as these scenarios may be practising traditional methods of project management especially developing countries.
When considering complexity in project management, it’s essential to understand that projects can become intricate due to various factors. Managing complexity involves recognizing these elements and developing strategies to handle them effectively. Key aspects of complexity in project management include:
Scope Complexity: Projects with broad or poorly defined scopes can lead to confusion and scope creep. Clear, well-documented objectives and deliverables help mitigate this complexity.
Technical Complexity: Projects involving advanced or new technologies may require specialized knowledge and can present significant challenges. Ensuring access to the right expertise and continuous learning is crucial.
Stakeholder Complexity: Diverse stakeholders with differing expectations and interests can complicate project execution. Effective communication and stakeholder management strategies are necessary to align everyone’s goals.
Interdependency Complexity: Tasks and activities within a project often depend on each other. Mapping out these interdependencies helps in planning and prevents bottlenecks.
Environmental Complexity: External factors such as regulatory changes, market conditions, or environmental considerations can impact the project. Staying informed and flexible can help manage these influences.
Organizational Complexity: Large projects spanning multiple departments or involving several organizations require robust coordination and collaboration mechanisms.
Strategies to Manage Complexity:

Thinking about Complexity.
As the head of one of many security units in a State Government House, sometime ago, I was asked to provide a general overview of the then poor state of security communication network and make recommendations on how to resolve the issues.
At first, the task was greeted with great enthusiasm believing that finally, a solution was in sight to improve the situation.
I worked with my team andbwe worked tirelessly to gather data and facts from various users, offices and stakeholders. Finally report showing the current poor state of the network was presented alongside recommendation to remedy the situation.
I was Thinking the approval for implementation would come speedily so that qualified vendor would commence implementation.
However to my amazement, execution for the supply of needed specified equipment was subtly taken over by political associates who ended up supplying a different set of equipment that did not fit into the existing communication network.
The error in supply led to years of delay in fixing the problem in addition to waste of government fund. Unnecessary interference by higher forces at workplace could pose a major challenge.
This experience is one of many challenges project manager may face. Operating within a political or other social environments having peoplebfilledbwith greed may present certain complexity to a project, nonetheless, with necessary skills, project managers can still work around those challenges and emerge with success.

Different organisation are face with different complexity likewise Project Manager’s, For instance my company the management invested heavily on technology which is trending and it driven force in today’s business environment, However, the equipment’s has been made available with human adaptability becomes difficult, to make everyone key into this objective management have to play a significance of training and retraining, The complexity of other stakeholders did not achieved the desire results initially, Overtime the communication play a unique role with adequate engagement which have put all parties on the same page, Complexity has a way of mitigating Project Manager to achieve effectively
In my current establishment which is a Construction firm, global issues such as new technology, competition and social and political change have a very negative impact on my organisation…the soaring price of raw materials hamper a lot of our projects during this time. Budgets provided based on project initial cost estimates could not see such projects to completion. This led to extended time schedule for multiple projects as our clients struggled to pay for those projects and see to their completion. This strongly emphasized the for the need for an organization to critical consider the various complexities introduced by global changes when determining the projects they want to work on.
Change is inevitable, and for that, in my company, We have set up a research team that makes sure that we are not lagging behind in information that will boost our growth and achievement for clients while we keep our company’s core values.
Transitioning to a new technology( softwares like facebook, instagram) also play major role for social visibility – getting to be known online takes a lot of effort and time.
Change is a constant phenomenon, therefore every organisation or company keep sorting for ways to stay abreast, and are always looking for innovative ways to cut cost, but still maintain quality irrespective if their location even though it most times plats an important role for certain projects to be carried put successfully.
Like my company, it has employed the use of Robots in our productions and sales processes.
If by Occam’s razor you mean that the MRCA is the source of the segment, I fear that’s can get you into trouble Sorting matches by the four grandparent lines is pretty straightforward if you don’t have endogamy That narrows the possibilities for alternate inheritance paths a great deal
In my organization, global issues like technology has really impacted the way we do things, basically almost everything we do has been moved to the online space, although it has it advantages like having a larger customer base, the ease in record keeping, it still has it own disadvantages, although the social and political changes has affected the organization because of the rules and changes been put in place, but this has also helped us to think of a more better way to handle projects in line with the current happening
Every profession has to work hard in making research looking for easy and innovative way to handle a lot of issues as day-by-day things change technology is shaping our world so as a project manager, I need to search for innovation to make my project easy and be able to deliver quality work at stipulated time.
In my company, we’ve been impacted because technology for instance, is ever evolving and we’ve had to make several changes to adapt to the times and trends. Like the use of social media with all its complexities, to push sales. It is no longer about just word of mouth and who you know but also pushing boundaries to create visibility where you can’t physically get to.
In the telecom industry, we have had to pay more attention to after work waste management that may impact the environment. Attention is being paid to emerging technologies that improve energy consumption thereby reducing cost of each project and making the whole process more efficient.

As a result of going traditional all these while, we’ve been having issue of theft in the company, disorderliness, low sales and poor management system but with the help of Technology, we will be able pull through
The global issues such as new technology, competition and social and political change have a very negative impact on my organisation – sourcing for product at high price has been a major challenge in a competitive market. And this has been as result of government policy instability.

Thinking about complexity and considering how major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, impact organizations and projects.
Currently in Nigeria, the daily declining economic situation due to political changes, has resulted to the highest level of inflation that have never been experienced in the country, which have made acquiring new technologies almost out of reach and have more than tripled the cost of doing business.
These has lead to social and environmental problems which have negatively impacted organizations and projects. And have also forced some organizations like mine to suspend operations /projects, and others to exit the country.
understanding the root causes of complexity, developing robust plans, remaining agile, fostering collaborative workflows, and harnessing technological advancements, project managers can skillfully navigate the intricate web of complex projects.
My name is Kingsley Okpoko, team 7, cohort 16.
Considering the major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, and its impact to my organization and projects we are involved in, i would say it affects it both positively and negatively.
I am in the financial sector, when the competition is very high, which in that sense you will have to bring your A game to the table in order to be in the game with others.
Also political changes paly a crucial part in projects because a change in regulatory policies can in turn affects the projects i.e. laying off some stakeholders to cut off cuts in order to be able to keep the project running.
though it take a very good project manage to be able to over this complexities and deliver on projects.
To address this, I will briefly give a spotlight on my construction activities. Project involves complexities and it requires not only academic knowledge but a skilled mind as well or better says being street smart.
Many days you will have multiple tasks to supervise including the ones that won’t have to be under your direct supervision but indirectly, you must provide oversight for a successful result to be accumulated.
Effective project management in complex environments demands a strategic, adaptive, and integrated approach. By identifying and understanding the root causes of complexity, developing robust plans, remaining agile, fostering collaborative workflows, and harnessing technological advancements, project managers can skillfully navigate the intricate web of complex projects. The ultimate objective is to deliver project goals while mitigating risks and optimizing stakeholder satisfaction.
Considering the major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, and its impact to my organization and the projects i am involved in right now it is super complex and it needs a high level of mental and material involvement to successfully finish up the project due to high cost of commodities.
As a business owner where competition is high i need a best strategy to apply in my business that will help me keep my customers.
Talking about complexity in my business; i will always try to make decision that will be beneficial to both my customers and my staffs. Also make room or be open to accept suggest that will help the business.
THINKING ABOUT COMPLEXITY.
First I will say that complexity is the opposite of simplicity, if something is not complex, it is simple. Reflecting to the world economy state especially Nigeria everything is complex and extremely difficult.
Considering the major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, and its impact to my organization and the projects i am involved in right now it is super complex and it needs a high level of mental involvement to successfully finish up the project due to high cost of commodities.
In tech industry which i am now, where the competition is very high but average in demand due minimal knowledge of tech in our communities, one needs to critically think and analyze the best strategy to use to convince both the young and old on the relevance of tech knowledge in our tech world. Convincing them doesn’t end there what about the necessary resources needed, and personnel to manage the people. It become so complex to make available the right resources and recruit the right personnel with the adequate and good knowledge needed to bit the competition level in the tech system where good number of individuals are on social media giving out tech knowledge free or even at very low cost at all levels.
However, thinking about complexity in this context as a project manager i will ensure the industry simplify their strategy, the organization of the industry, products, processes and information technology systems, as this aims at removing unnecessarily complex processes which hinder change, speed, growth or increase cost. Lastly, encourage building the capacity in one self, the people, the products, and the industry, to adapt continuously and learn speedily, in order to maximize the chances of seizing fleeting opportunities.
Managing complexity in project management requires a strategic, adaptive, and holistic approach. By understanding the sources of complexity, planning effectively, maintaining flexibility, fostering collaboration, and leveraging technology, project managers can navigate the intricate landscape of complex projects. Ultimately, the goal is to achieve project objectives while minimizing risks and maximizing stakeholder satisfaction.
In the project I have been involved in, technology, competition, social and political change and the environmental crisis have impacted significantly to these project.

Positive Impact: The introduction of AI has streamlined various processes, enhancing efficiency and productivity. Tasks that once took significant time and effort can now be automated, allowing for quicker data analysis, better decision-making, and more innovative solutions.
Negative Impact: Over-reliance on AI can lead to a decline in critical thinking and problem-solving skills among employees. Additionally, the learning curve for experienced workers unfamiliar with these tools can delay project timelines and reduce overall effectiveness.
2. Competition:
Positive Impact: Healthy competition drives continuous improvement and innovation. Organizations strive to enhance their offerings, improve quality, and deliver exceptional results to win bids and contracts, thereby raising industry standards.
Negative Impact: Intense competition can lead to cost-cutting measures that compromise project integrity and quality. When organizations prioritize winning bids over maintaining high standards, it can result in subpar project outcomes and damage to reputation.
3. Social and Political Change:
Positive Impact: Progressive social and political policies can create a favourable business environment, encouraging investment, innovation, and growth. Stable political conditions foster confidence and long-term planning.
Negative Impact: Unstable political environments and unfavourable policies can lead to uncertainty and risk for businesses. For instance, in Nigeria, political instability has driven multinational companies to exit the market, impacting the local economy and disrupting business operations.
4. Environmental Crises:
Positive Impact: Growing awareness and regulatory pressure related to environmental sustainability push organizations to adopt eco-friendly practices, contributing to long-term environmental conservation and corporate social responsibility.
Negative Impact: Environmental crises can significantly disrupt project timelines and budgets. For example, Shell’s exploration activities in the Niger Delta have led to environmental degradation, affecting local livelihoods and leading to social unrest. Compensation and remediation efforts become necessary, adding complexity and cost to projects.
Judith Isaac: The invention of Ai has been helpful in elevating human efficiency in the major aspect of work. The issue we have at work with this rise in technology is the unethical use of Ai. People lie about their proficiency level, allocating their role to Artificial intelligence.
Blessing Olusakin: The need to be relevant and stay relevant in my field in these days of advance technology and fast moving digital world has kept my organization and business on their toes. Virtually every thing is going digital now, digital farming equipments, use of robots in place of humans for manual labour in large scale farming e.t.c is impacting on the jobs meant for humans as means of survival. My take is, if I can’t have the job, then I need to be creative to be a part of the creators in the fast evolving digital world.
in the organization i currently work in, Technology has played a key role in improving
the managment and storing of data in the organization. We are now able to disseminate information to staffs in the organisation. These changes have made work easier and faster for operating in the work space.
Technology
Technology affects education by necessitating digital literacy and integrating advanced tools into learning. This requires ongoing investment in infrastructure, training for educators, and adapting curricula to include emerging technologies.
Competition
Increased competition demands that educational institutions continuously innovate to attract and retain students. This involves enhancing the quality of education, offering unique programs, and maintaining up-to-date facilities and resources.
Social and Political Change
Social and political shifts influence education policies, funding, and regulatory frameworks. Institutions must stay agile to comply with new regulations, address diverse student needs, and promote inclusivity and equity within their communities.
Environmental Crisis
The environmental crisis compels educational organizations to adopt sustainable practices. This includes reducing carbon footprints, integrating sustainability into the curriculum, and fostering environmental awareness among students and staff.
Each of these global issues requires strategic planning and responsive project management to ensure the organization remains relevant, competitive, and responsible.
These global issues can significantly influence a project success and performance in various way.
So effective adaptation, innovation, and strategic planning are crucial to navigate these challenges and capitalizing on opportunities proactively to ensure success and sustainability.
The big global issues could affect a business or organization in the following ways:
1. A supply chain could be disrupted when there is environmental issue such as earthquake or flooding
2. Technology is changing rapidly and staying up to date and mitigating cybersecuity risks would be traumatic
3. Social and political changes may affect organizations where there is government policy that may not favour it, this will hinder the reputation and ethics through which the company is known for.
Technology is playing a very impressive role in the health sector now compared to some years back. For example, We make use of computer softwares to help store and process patient data. The laboratory uses some specialize machines for investigations and we now use 2D, 3D ultrasound machines. These facility has led to the overall improvement in our services and happier customers. Although, for some cases there might be need for specialist attention and more complex investigations. Such cases we refer to appropriate specialist to continue management.
There are a good number of Competitors around us and that keeps us on our toes always. So, time and again we keep brain storming on ways to serve better and improve on our skills & services so as to maintain our spot as the preferred choice for customers health care in our vicinity.
On the Socio-Political scene, we have been loosing our health practitioners more often for the past few years now to overseas countries due to better and more organized health care system in more developed nations. This really sometimes takes it’s toll on the smooth running of activities in the organization.

Technology: in my organization, which is the poultry industry, technology has revolutionized the way we do things, e.g. artificial insemination, hatchery, butchery section, machines, implements that can complete tasks by the second are being invented which is truly amazing. Every organization needs to adapt to the technology of it’s time to remain relevant, even the internet is a strong footing for any organization to interact with the whole world. Acceptance, receptiveness to change and adaptability to the said change of the project managers and the organization as a whole therefore translates to higher productivity, machine learning, projects being completed accurately and effectively over short periods of time.
Competition can either affect an organization negatively or positively. Positively in a sense that, it can give project managers that drive to be better, think better ideas, ways to make work faster, better branding of products, more productive and easier, also build more self confidence, knowledge and skills of the workers. that’s what I call “healthy competition”. Competition is only negative when it targets the elimination of an organization or the employees of said organization instead of improving the quality of the products, projects or services rendered by such companies.
Social & Political Change: organizations are citied in cities, cities are in countries, if a country is in war, either civil or otherwise, every organization in that country will be definitely affected adversely, restricted movements, insecurity, etc. A change of government can also affect organizations or projects because everything they do must be legal and law abiding including tax payment. Also project managers & organizations should take note of the society in which they find themselves, what they accept, prohibit or hate because they will directly or indirectly influence their products, projects and growth of such organizations
Environmental Crisis : factors like global warming, pollution e.g. gas, noise or water directly affects my organization because we cannot be cited in or near any geographical location that emits such. For the health & safety of both the employees and animals being reared and also for biosecurity reasons.
Harsh or Severe weather conditions as well reduces productivity in my organization and when not managed properly, the result is usually catastrophic, were talking about loss of livestock numbering in thousands.
Diseases can also result from bad environmental practices which can deadly for organizations cited in that specific area. Project managers & employees are educated on safety protocols and precautions when faced with such precarious situations.

I will be discussing my experience working in the Banking sector
1) Technology: Technology has played a major role In the banking sector by transforming traditional banking system to a digitalized form of banking. Technology has made it possible to send money from the comfort of your home to any part of the world within seconds but this has also increased the rate at which accounts are been hacked and data stolen. I remember when we were trying to test run a new software before the Go live of the new software, it was hacked and the bank was forced to abandon that project which caused a lot of funds and time to get another software and a bigger cloud-based storage. The bank had to start sensitizing customers on how to safeguard their data by not sharing their token pin and transfer pin, authorizing 2-step verification, using online virtual cards instead for online transactions, and not using them on suspicious sites, etc
2)Competition: competition is the bane of every organization but it also makes the organization keep researching to do things better to retain its customers. The rise of different fintech companies, Microfinance banks, mortgage banks, and so many others has made commercial banks develop strategies to retain their client. In my organization, we had to start up projects like collaborating with some fintech to start giving small loans to petty traders and striking a deal with the Civil Service Commission so that civil service workers can apply for mortgage loans and personal loans and it will be deducted from their salaries .
3)social and political change: Political instability is one of the major reasons for social inadequacy. when there is political instability or poor economic performance it affects every aspect of a country. when investors suspect that a system is not conducive, they start to pull out their resources and this might affect the standard of living. looking at Nigeria, stiff policies on the exchange rates is affecting every sector of the economy, and the banks are not left out because banks make money money from forex. These stiff policies intend to curb illegal markets but also have made most Banks lose investors and increase their interest rate on lending which in turn affects everyone.
4) Environmental crisis: we are in an era where climate change is affecting every part of the world and we are experiencing harsh weather. The 2023 flood in some parts of Nigeria affected Banks that gave out loans to their customers living in those areas and a majority of the customers were unable to repay their loans. This year in my place of work we started a project for cleaner energies and also we are reducing funding of businesses in flood-prone areas pending when the government can mitigate the risk that comes with excessive flood.

Technology
There will be need to adapt to new technologies and intergrate innovation in our projects to stay competitive.
There will be need to train and develop my team’s skills to leverage new technology
Competition
There is increased pressure to be innovative and also to be diffrerent in the face of global competition
Adaptation to market changes and customer expectations
Social and Political Changes
There is need to adapt to regulatory and political changes in areas of operation
There is also need to manage risks related to political instability and conflict in other regions
Environmental Crisis
Develop more sustainable products or services
Impact of climate change on our operations or particular projects
Reducing environmental footprint of our projects
Technology has helped improved in managing and analyzing data in the organization I’m working in. we have had a change in policies and regulations governing organizations as well as environmental related projects, and this has led to most investors failing to invest in projects. The government has imposed very high taxes and this has chased away investors as well.
Technology has helped improve our work and design as well as making communication easy. Organizing meetings, gathering and disseminating information.
Social and political changes- this is the biggest challenge we face, with constant changes in polices and social vices from the omo onile, to execute a project has become difficult and expensive and at times delay the project.
As a medical laboratory Scientist aspiring to be a project manager, the key issues affecting our organization include
Technology: medical innovations/technology such as auto lumo, GeneXpact, Eliza etc has affected us greatly, positively and negatively, yes it has reduced the turn around time of most results but at the same time it has made a lot of laboratory scientist lose their jobs. Machines are replacing the jobs of humans. A lot of sponsors look out for their equipment more than their employees/personnels.
Environmental crisis includes insecurities and climate change. Insecurity has made people flee their homes. Climate change which is caused by the activities of man has envelope new strains of microorganism causing anti-microbial resistance which is one of the biggest trait we are facing as laboratory scientist. Climate change has cause food insecurity which has affected lots of projects and economic growth.
It’s important that this global issues affecting man kind should be addressed and enough awareness created.
Understanding Iterative Project
I have had quite a lot of similar experiences relating to the Iterative project approach especially on the receiving end at work. The project team always asks for our contributions when modifying or creating a new work application for us to use. We get to test it on the job, give our feedbacks and wait for the needed improvements

Working as a call center agent, has made me to know that one of the major challenges we are facing is Technology because clients always want to get their demands attended to as promptly as they want it which most times isn’t possible because of a lot of reasons out of which is the fact that the site can not accommodate above a number of clients at same time.
Social disturbance and Competition from our competitors has also proven to be a challenge as capital is invested into that area to keep the project going.
From Joseph Ikechukwu Onyeocha:
Managing projects in a complex society with dynamic changes across politics, technology, environment, social factors, and the economy requires a flexible and adaptive approach. Here are some key considerations:
1. Stakeholder Engagement: Regularly engage with stakeholders to understand evolving political, social, and economic factors that could impact the project. This helps in anticipating changes and managing expectations.
2. Risk Management: Conduct thorough risk assessments considering technological advancements, environmental regulations, and economic fluctuations. Develop contingency plans to mitigate potential disruptions.
3. Adaptive Planning: Embrace agile project management methodologies that allow for iterative adjustments based on changing circumstances. This helps in responding quickly to new developments.
4. Sustainability: Incorporate sustainable practices into project planning and execution to align with environmental and social responsibilities. This may involve using eco-friendly technologies or supporting community initiatives.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration: the Foster collaboration across diverse teams with expertise in different domains (technology, policy, environment, etc.) to leverage collective insights and ensure holistic decision-making.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement robust monitoring systems to track progress and adapt strategies as needed. Regularly evaluate the project’s impact on various societal aspects to ensure alignment with broader goals.
7. Ethical Considerations: Stay mindful of ethical implications related to data privacy, social equity, and community well-being throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Continuous Learning: Foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation within the project team to stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in relevant fields.
By integrating these strategies into project management practices, teams can navigate complexities and changes in a dynamic society more effectively, ultimately enhancing project outcomes and societal impact.
In my organization, one of the greatest challenges we face is environmental issues, particularly those specific to certain locations and often exacerbated by human activities. For example, disturbances arising from working at a particular site can significantly impact our operations.
Finding solutions to these ever-changing and unpredictable challenges is a critical task for the project manager. They must mitigate these issues effectively to ensure the business remains operational. Addressing environmental concerns requires strategic planning, adaptability, and a proactive approach to maintain the sustainability and efficiency of our projects.
My work experience so far has shown me that changes to almost any of the global issues mentioned in “Thinking about Complexities” can have some serious effect on major project in different organizations.
In my organization in the area of technology we are seeing not just rapid but also consistent changes to our work applications, we are increasingly adapting to AI tech-innovations. So we keep having different project teams from time to time bringing new apps or upgrade.
In the area of competition, the more global services you offer, the more your advantage over competitors. We are working on having less and less barriers to international transaction. However, once there is disagreement between the country where our headquarters is and another transacting nation, it puts a pause, in some cases, a stop to international services we with the transacting country. Social and Political crises largely go hand in hand, every projects introduced in our organization always take into consideration how the receiving society is structured; considering their day to day/ way of life, which in turn shapes the political environment.
We have had to bring in new policies/programmes with ongoing Environmental issues at hand such as global warming and burning bushes.

In my current job as a customer service manager one major global challenge that affects service delivery is technology. There’s a constant demand from customers to have access to products and services from the comfort of their houses and offices etc and aside this, they also want to be able to access and give their complains expecting immediate responses using same means and as such the importance of constant improvement of technology in this regard can not be overemphasized.
My name is PAUL NWEKE, COHORT, TEAM 9.
As an Engineering firm, technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems are key issues to look into and put into consideration.
The emergence of new technologies in the global market is something that must be seriously put into consideration. The advancements in modern technology concerning some of the materials we use for our project are one thing we consider. Again, getting some local materials that meet international standards is evolving and we take absolute care in ensuring these issues are considered in the course of implementing our projects.
Due to the emergence and advancement in modern technology, the global market has become where the strong ones can only survive with the best technology that suits customers, hence the market is competitive.
Social and political changes also affect the market. Some policies being dished out by the government have affected the market. To mention again is environmental problems.
These are some of the things that affect the market but for the industry and companies to strive and still continue in business, they must adopt certain policies, swift strategic planning, good governance and strategic engagement of the stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and successful project execution.

The developmental space faces a complex array of global challenges that significantly impact project planning, execution, and outcomes. Technological innovations, like AI, enhance efficiency, accuracy, and project management. However, global competition brings supply chain risks, necessitating diversification and adaptability. Social and political changes affect labor markets and regulatory environments, requiring flexible responses. Environmental concerns drive the demand for sustainable practices and efficient resource management. To thrive, the industry must adopt strategic planning, technological advancements, sustainable practices, and effective stakeholder engagement to ensure successful project outcomes and long-term sustainability.

Global issues like technology has brought innovation into the banking industry with the introduction of electronics banking and artificial intelligence.
Competition has become one of the key influence that brings about growth, creativity and professionalism in the banking world.
Social and political changes can have a negative effect on banks without strong capital.
Environmental problem, the introduction of technology has reduced the threat posed by environmental problem, because of the electronics banking.

Global issues like environmental problems have led to migration and advancement in science and technology on how to know when a disruption is about to happen and escaping to safety.
Migration has led to improved standards of living and Increasing employment opportunities across borders.
Even though I happen to fall in the latter set of Virtual Administrative Assistants, I still come across stories and shared experiences from industry experts talking about how the introduction of remote workspace affected them, how weird it was at first, and how it took lots of learning before they began to adapt to the social change that had happened.
From what I have observed from them, technology was at the forefront of it all and this was because the rapid technological advancements required them to stay updated with the latest software and tools that enhance productivity and efficiency. And as administrative assistants, this meant continuous learning and adaptation to new systems like advanced scheduling tools, project management software, and communication platforms.
Also, they started to practice social values like inclusivity and diversity more and these in turn affected the impact of their projects whether personal or organizational.
1. Technology also has positive and negative environmental effects. The positive effects are recycling of wastes, reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, and renewable energy production. The negative effects include depletion of natural resources, air pollution, and accumulation of wastes.
2. Competition is important in business because it helps keep businesses on their toes. It makes them strive to develop cutting-edge products and services that are suited to their customers and gives them a marketplace advantage. Businesses with competitors know they need to work hard to maintain their customer base.
3. Political decisions, including policy changes, trade regulations, and government incentives, have a direct impact on organizations’ operations and growth prospects. For example, a shift in trade policies can disrupt global supply chains and affect international businesses
4. Factors like coastal flooding can have a major impact on businesses, leading to operational disruption and losses for organizations. Climate change can also create a higher demand for energy as the temperatures get warmer and there is a higher demand for air conditioning use.
I work for an Entertainment firm, in the music section of the industry.
Firstly, Competition as a global issue impacts my firm positively and negatively. On the positive side, it keeps us checked, ensuring that we stay aware that we aren’t the only firm in the Entertainment industry. This fact has been a major push in the firm. we make sure our deliveries are outstandingly great and unopposely accepted in the society. The competition keeps us on our toes, having to know there are rivals, we tend to do extra on every project and delivery. On the negative side, competition has compromised the cost of services in the entertainment industry. Rivals tend to bring down the cost of their services to give the clients the option of standard service, this in return affects the rate at which projects are contracted.
Technology is another global issue. The gadgets we use in the entertainment industry have been upgraded in recent times and some of those gadgets aren’t affordable. This unaffordability has reduced the productivity of the firm in terms of successful delivery of standards compared to other firms that can afford those gadgets. The introduction of new gadgets isn’t the issue but the affordability of the technology is the major issue.
Social and political issues are major global issues. Social issues happen in the sense that there are trends in society that can improve the portfolio of a firm in the same order there are trends that can damage the reputation of a firm. This phenomenon is one my firm tends to analyze critically before embarking on any project. Political issues on the other hand are quite difficult to handle because the laws are made and amended in intervals by the lawmakers, which sometimes affects the firm positively or negatively. In this regard, my firm tends to embark on projects based on the current societal and political law and order.
Our society is changing as the days go by. Globalization and environmental factors affect the way projects are carried out. Technological innovations and new discoveries, social realignment and new values tend to inform projects formulations. More so, social media has become the new gate setter on topical and trendy narratives that could impact project management.
Global issues such as technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems shape project planning, execution, and outcomes in several critical ways.
Technological advancements play a significant role in enhancing efficiency and accuracy. BIM, for instance, facilitates detailed planning and collaboration through 3D modelling, reducing errors and improving project management. Automation and robotics streamline repetitive tasks and enhance precision, while smart construction materials like self-healing concrete and embedded sensors improve durability and maintenance. Additionally, drones and wearables aid in site surveys and worker safety monitoring, and artificial intelligence and data analytics optimise project management through predictive insights.
Global competition introduces challenges such as supply chain disruptions, which can lead to material shortages and increased costs. To mitigate these risks, construction firms need to diversify suppliers and adopt just-in-time inventory practices. The necessity of adhering to international standards and codes requires flexibility and thorough knowledge of varying regulations. Competitive pressures drive the need for continuous innovation, cost-efficiency, and quality improvement.
Social and political changes impact labour availability and regulatory environments. Shifts in immigration policies and workforce demographics can create labour market fluctuations, necessitating training programmes and attractive working conditions to secure skilled labour. Urbanisation demands increased infrastructure and housing, while community engagement becomes essential for project acceptance and smooth execution.
Environmental concerns push the industry towards sustainable building practices, climate change adaptation, and efficient waste management. There is a growing demand for green buildings and energy-efficient designs, and stricter environmental regulations require adherence to standards on emissions, waste disposal, and resource use.
Overall, the construction industry must adapt to these global challenges through strategic planning, technological adoption, sustainable practices, and robust stakeholder engagement to ensure successful project outcomes and long-term viability.
Technology has really been of great help in my field because it has helped us to discharge our duties very well and fast.
But social and political changes in my country has made things so difficult that one cannot be able to access some gadget in manufacturing process because of the hike in price of goods.
Political and economic crisis can affect any set project especially when it comes to finance and other related areas. In my organization, we recently had an issue because the finance mapped out for a certain project wasn’t enough to complete it. This posed a great challenge to our project and caused us major setback as we were unable to deliver as at the time we should. Other plans were put in place which helped us scale through, though, not delivering at the time we should.
As an organization that work with communities on Water, Sanitation and Health ( Health) emerging issues in technology, social media, politics are serious considerations.
First, there is the compulsion of aligning to universal standards. There are set out standard procedure. For maximum impacts, these must be adhered.
The social media acts as both a check and a promotional platform. A check on possible excesses or deviations and a promotional platform when right things are done. We use the Social media to also disseminate basic WASH information that educate and enlighten while showcasing our job. More so, care is always taken to avoid misrepresentation by some elements in the communities, especially when there are contentions. The social media can easily accept any information in spite of it’s negativity .
Political challenges also abound. Many times interests try to interfere in community projects. Though, negotiation and effective communications are always employed to sort things out. Yet, the place of politics as a challenge can not be ignored.
Modern technological advancements in terms of materials for our physical projects such as water and toilet facility constructions are there to consider also. Purchasing materials that meet international standards are ever evolving. Care is taken in ensuring these issues are considered in the course of implementing our projects.
Environmental challenges in terms of Government policies, existing or non existing facilities impact the implementation of our projects. Most times issues emerge that stretch our resources beyond estimations. Political interest most times also try to impede our organizational ethics.
These and many others do impact projects. The ability to manage them result in proper project executions.
In a globally significant manufacturing company that produces essential goods, certain factors drive the execution of a project. These include:
1. Technological trends: The project will utilize technology to simplify and expedite processes. This may involve communication with stakeholders, team members, and external parties.
2. Competitors: The presence of competitors in your field necessitates striving to improve and may lead to collaborations.
3. Global issues: The global trend of inflation affects the cost of goods in all countries, which in turn impacts a manufacturing company.

Working at a media company, these external factors significantly influence both the organization and its projects:
1. Technology: Rapid advancements in technology impact how news is gathered, reported, and consumed. Media must adapt to digital platforms, online journalism, and possibly invest in new technologies for content creation and distribution. Many of the media houses are not adapting to digital platforms
2. Competition:: The media industry is highly competitive, with traditional rivals and new digital media outlets vying for audience attention. Needs to innovate and differentiate its content to maintain and grow its readership.
3.Social and Political Change: Societal shifts and political developments directly affect news coverage and reader interests. The company must stay attuned to these changes to provide relevant and impactful journalism that resonates with its audience.
4.Environmental Crisis: Environmental issues increasingly shape public discourse and policy. The company may need to enhance coverage of environmental topics, adopt sustainability practices in operations, and possibly adjust editorial priorities to reflect these concerns.
In the Complexity which can be face on project management
1, Technological complexity:- by differentiation refers to the variety and diversity of some aspects of a task such as number and diversity of inputs/outputs, number and diversity of tasks to undertake, and number of specialities and contractors, involved in the project. Technology helps in effective project execution with the help of collaborative tools, in real time availability of data Technology helps in combining more approaches for the benefits of the project to helps team members to navigate large amount of incoming data, to interlink processes of project and choose the best method of project management
2, Globalisation of trade and competition:- The economy’s entry into its globalisation phase has radically altered the nature of competition. Now, numerous new actors from every market in the world are simultaneously in competition on every market. This new competition has accentuated the interdependence of the different levels of globalization trade in goods and services, direct investment, technology transfers, capital movements), with direct investment becoming a central factor in the process of industrial restructuring and the development of genuine world industries.
3. Social and Political Crisis: :- Societal and political crisis can have implications for organizations. The changes in demographics, values, and attitudes can impact consumer behavior and demand. Moreover, Change in government policies, regulations, and geopolitical dynamics can affect market conditions, supply chains, and business operations. As a project manager you must know in your mind the policy of social and political crisis can rule out your organization from the market place
4. Environmental Crisis:- This is the process where the Climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation pose significant challenges for organizations , our inclusive. Increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices and reduce carbon emissions necessitates changes in power generation processes, distribution chain management, and product design. Environmental crisis can lead to damage to project if it not well address.

In a world full of complexities, a project manager can manage effectively by:
-Staying Informed: Keeping up to date with the latest technological trends, market competition, and global issues.
-Flexibility and Adaptability: Being ready to adapt plans as situations change due to social, political, or environmental factors.
-Risk Management: Identifying potential risks early and developing mitigation strategies.
-Effective Communication: Ensuring clear and open communication within the team and with stakeholders.
-Continuous Learning: Encouraging the team to learn and develop new skills that can help navigate complexities.
-Collaboration: Working closely with other departments, experts, and stakeholders to gather diverse perspectives.
A project Manager must derive ways in handling complexities and challenges that may occur during projects. A project manger must be vast in the following factors;
1.Technology: Technology around the world has tilted many ways things are done and project management are not left out. The introduction of Ai has also affected human participation as this technology is also changing the faces of projects. Some ongoing projects are changed to include the involvement of non human actors.
2. Environmental factors: Changes in weather, climate change and other environmental hazards affects projects as some projects may be abandoned due to harsh weather and other.
3. Social factors: Social factors such as the activities of non governmental organizations can abruptly change existing or anticipated projects. The project manager should anticipate crisis of interest between government and non state actors.
4. Competition: Increased competition, both locally and globally, may require your organization to differentiate itself through unique value propositions or strategic partnerships. Understanding competitor strategies can inform your project planning and execution to maintain a competitive edge.
How We manage and deliver our projects depends on complexity of the world, complexity or global issues such as technology, competition, social and political change and the environmental crisis.

The innovations of the artificial intelligence has really come to play in project management work.
Projects are live activities. This means that project managers and project participants are not going to sleep. They must continue to scan the project environment for changes. They must respond to changes and communicate these changes to stakeholders. These project behaviours assure success.
Technology has revolutionized project management approach. The implementation of AI-powered tools to enhance data analysis and automate tasks, resulting in increased efficiency and accuracy. However, there is also the need to address new challenges in data privacy and security.
Socio-political changes have also influenced project goals and stakeholder engagement strategies. There is need to adapt to new regulations and public expectations, requiring more agility and responsiveness in project management approach.
For most projects of course. Due to the political change in Nigeria that has affected the economy. There is rise in the prices of most items used for the projects.
The project we are currently on started last year and the bill of quantity was approved by the client and team members.
Due to social and political disturbances, the BOQ is not feasible as prices of materials have skyrocketed. This has proven a problem not only to the team but to the client who has refused to meet up with current rates.
HOW CAN FACTORS SUCH AS ENVIRONMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIO-POLITICAL CHANGE AFFECT AN ORGANIZATION AND ITS PROJECT:
1) THE ENVIRONMENT: The environment can pose constraints to an organisation’s goals and objectives through various factors ranging from economic conditions, social trends, industry trends and competition which consists of multiple organizations that collectively compete with one another by providing similar goods, services, or both. Some organizations can wield such magnitude of power as to influence major decisions that shape the general environment. A basic understanding of an organization’s environment invariably impacts the kind of projects it’ll undertake as well as the decision making process around the project. The environment could also be a source of opportunities and threats for an organization as these factors can greatly impact its performance level.
2) TECHNOLOGY: The emergence of ever evolving technological trends play a crucial role in influencing organizational change processes by reshaping structures, cultures, and behaviors within organizations. This can largely impact an organization’s mode of operation. For instance, industries that border on administrative type functions can leverage technology to making work more efficient, accurate, and faster, thereby leading to the maximization of an organization’s overall performance in terms of productivity and competitiveness.
3) SOCIO-POLITICAL FACTORS: These factors can present themselves in situations ranging from language barrier, currency exchange and inflation rate, managing global teams, foreign politics and relations and the nuances that surround them, policy changes, trade regulations, cultural differences and so on.
The decisions made concerning these factors can have a direct impact on the operations of an organization and subsequently its projects. For instance, when there is a shift in trade policies, it can disrupt global supply chains and affect international businesses which can adversely affect the outcome of a project if risk management isn’t introduced ab initio.
The world as a global village its an understanding a Project Manager must have as a cornerstone idea in all his or her actions
In line with the above comes the impact of changing technology, trade and competition on a global scale, global political and social alliances and the renew efforts to curb the actions or impacts of environmental emergency resulting from global climatic changes plays important role in Project Management.
In my organization based in an African country, all the above have had their impact on our business. The impact of new technology for business such as adopting ERP system, looking for alternative sources energy such as solar has improve our business. However, we have had to compete in sourcing for our raw material’s (corrugated reels from oversea paper mills) which in turns means we are competing with other companies overseas or also in complying with international business standards like having SEDEX Certification, ISO 9001: 2015 Certification etc which are requisite for doing business with affiliates of international brands like Coca Cola, Henkel etc.
Above all, political and social reforms has necessitated unanticipated government policies changes (tax, wages reforms etc) some which led to increase in plan project cost and this often requires a review in the scope of existing projects or his budgets, Also environmental effects and need to be more environmental friendly also are few of the critical decisions to consider as a Project Manager
Discussion complexity
New Technology
Technological complexity by differentiation refers to the variety and diversity of some aspects of a task such as number and diversity of inputs/outputs, number and diversity of tasks to undertake, and number of specialities and contractors, involved in the project
Globalisation of trade and competition
The economy’s entry into its globalisation phase has radically altered the nature of competition. Now, numerous new actors from every market in the world are simultaneously in competition on every market. This new competition has accentuated the interdependence of the different levels of globalisation trade in goods and services, direct investment, technology transfers, capital movements), with direct investment becoming a central factor in the process of industrial restructuring and the development of genuine world industries.
To contend with the challenges of globalization, firms have altered their strategies, strengthening the activities in which they were in a dominant position (refocusing), seeking to achieve critical size and attaching priority to external growth (mergers and acquisitions). At the same time, they have multiplied the number of co-operation agreements and alliances and changed their internal organisation. Globalisation has obliged all countries to raise their standards of economic efficiency, whence the growing interest in and concern about competitiveness. Analysis of globalisation has also revealed the change in the context in which most traditional indicators of competitiveness are interpreted, and demonstrated the urgent need to develop a new generation of indicators based on new information, so as to be able to throw new light on the more traditional indicators
One of the main difficulties in defining and measuring competitive is that the two main reference levels — the firm and the nation — have differing objectives. While for a nation the aim is to maintain and improve its citizens’ living standards, for a firm the object is to deal successfully with international competition by making profits and increasing its market shares
Social and Political Change:
Social and political changes have far-reaching implications for organizations and projects. For instance, shifts in social attitudes may require organizations to adapt their marketing approaches or develop new products to cater to changing consumer demands. Additionally, changes in government policies and regulations can impact project workflows, funding opportunities, or even project viability
Environmental crisis
Environmental crisis it in project management are refers to the assessment and consideration of the negative effects that a project may have on the environment. It involves identifying and evaluating the potential impacts of a project on ecosystems, resources, and socio-economic factors.

Reflection and Discussion
In reflecting on how these global issues affect your organization, consider the following questions:
How does your organization integrate new technologies into its projects, and what challenges does it face in doing so?
In what ways does competition influence your project priorities and resource allocation?
How are social and political changes shaping your organizational policies and project management practices?
What sustainability goals does your organization have, and how do these influence project planning and execution?
By understanding and addressing these factors, organizations can better navigate the complexities of the modern business environment and enhance their project management practices to achieve long-term success.
Every project, every team, every organisation, has been impacted by the dynamic nature of the world we live in.
For instance, because of technology, before an organisation is considered for a job, their competition is just a click away.
On the other hand, technology has increased the rate of global competition, and given organizations the opportunity to upskill and position better in the global market.
Environmental concerns have made organizations put on their thinking caps and find better ways to produce sustainable work.
Social and political changes have brought about bodies of law that have impacted organizations.
These impacts don’t have to be negative to be noted. Finally, there’s nothing wrong with change, every organisation that will thrive must not be averse to change, but must be ready to pivot accordingly.
I’d like to give the example of a farm that produces chickens to supply markets.
Today, almost all the players in the chain are closing their farms because the cost of inputs has doubled.
The reasons given are the drought, the many armed conflicts and the taxes and regulations imposed by the various countries.
These are all factors that need to be taken into account in order to adapt and evolve.
The new technologies used to produce chicks and pack the animals would be a solution, but they are excessively expensive.
The manager of a small and medium-sized business has to take all these factors into account to achieve his objectives.
In my experience, the major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems have a significant impact on my organization and the projects I’m involved in. For instance:
Technological advancements have led to increased automation and digital transformation, requiring us to adapt and upskill to remain competitive.
Global competition has forced us to innovate and improve our products and services to meet evolving customer needs.
Social and political changes have led to shifting priorities and regulations, necessitating flexibility and agility in our project management approaches.
Environmental concerns have prompted us to adopt sustainable practices and consider the ecological footprint of our projects.
To address these challenges, we’ve implemented various strategies, such as:
– Embracing agile to respond quickly to changing requirements.
– Investing in employee development programs to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies.
– Conducting thorough risk assessments to mitigate potential impacts of global events.
– Incorporating environmental impact assessments into our project planning.
By acknowledging and adapting to these global issues, we can ensure our organization and projects remain resilient, relevant, and responsible.
Global issues have both positive and negative effects on organizations and projects. The advancement in technology can enhance operations as well as improve productivity when an organization decides to embrace technological advancement, technology advancement is usually highly capital intensive and can make it difficult for an organization to level up based on technological standard. In cases where for some reason an organization is not operating with the latest available technologies, it makes them to be at the loosing end with other technically more advanced organization, as more clients will prefer to work with seemingly more advanced organizations.
Government policies can also greatly affect the way an organization are able to operate, some policies may be highly demanding and be very difficult to be met by some organization and this could lead to a company becoming defunct.
Big global issues like technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis can significantly affect my organization and my projects in various ways:
1. Operations: Supply chain will be disrupted, resources are most times scarce in getting, and regulatory changes comes in play.
2. Marketing and Sales: this usually change consumer behaviors, their preferences, and expectations.
3. Innovation and R&D: there is the need for continuous innovation, adaptation to new trends, and investment in new technologies.
4. Human Resources:This is the attraction and retaining of good talents, diversity and inclusion, and employee engagement.
5. Reputation and Brand: Social and environmental responsibilities, transparency, and accountability.
6. Financial Performances: This usually happens in the fluctuations I. markets, regulatory changes, and investment in sustainability initiatives.
7. Strategical Planning: Adapting to changing circumstances, scenario planning, and long-term thinking.
So my organization is always ready to be agile, to adapt to new trends, and proactive in responding to these global issues in order to maintain their competitive edge, be in line, and maintain their reputation, and long-term success
1. Technology: Rapid advancements in technology can impact organizations and projects in several ways. It may require upgrading existing systems or adopting new tools to stay competitive. Furthermore, technology can also create opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements within projects.
2. Competition: Global competition can affect organizations and projects by increasing pressure to deliver better products or services. It may necessitate identifying unique value propositions and targeted marketing strategies to differentiate from competitors. Additionally, staying updated on industry trends and understanding competitors’ strategies is crucial to adapt and thrive.
3. Social and Political Change: Social and political changes have far-reaching implications for organizations and projects. For instance, shifts in social attitudes may require organizations to adapt their marketing approaches or develop new products to cater to changing consumer demands. Additionally, changes in government policies and regulations can impact project workflows, funding opportunities, or even project viability.
4. Environmental Crisis: The environmental crisis has a significant impact on organizations and projects in terms of sustainability and corporate responsibility. Organizations need to assess their environmental footprint and take actions towards sustainable practices. Projects may need to incorporate environmental considerations, such as resource conservation or renewable energy integration, depending on their nature.
Considering these global issues is essential for organizations and projects to remain relevant, adaptable, and resilient. Addressing these challenges proactively can lead to improved competitiveness, increased stakeholder satisfaction, and positive social and environmental impact.

Global issues such as our social, environmental and political changes in our economy have had negative impacts on businesses and organization. In Nigeria businesses do all to remain relevant despite the various challenges faced. However, advancement in technology has been of great benefit because it has helped to make businesses and organization thrive in complex situations and also aid increase in growth and development of businesss and organizations. It has helped solved the problem of unemployment, technology sharpens and enlightened people on how they can be useful and make the best use of there time.
In this era of globalization where all the aspects of life are infused together be it political, economic, social, technology and environmental challenges, all these have a great impact on all decisions made in every single organization or projects.
Technologies have had significant positive impacts on decision making, carrying out task and at the same time posed several challenges on accomplishing some.
Overall every organization or individual must keep abreast on the changing tides of globalization.

Technologies, environmental crises can affect a company’s strength in generating revenues, it can also cause an organisation to lose market share by making it difficult for some competitors to obtain critical components or services needed for their continued growth
Essentially, with the rise in AI and other disruptive interactive technologies, I think the adoption of these modern Technologies and its integration in systems remains one of the biggest hurdles organizations needs to cross in order to meet global standards. Organizations needs to be intentional towards taking steps to fill these technology gap so as to remain relevant and in tune with their industry benchmark.
In the typical business setting, various elements consistently influence both the internal and external structure and functioning of a business. Through experience, I’ve come to understand that the business environment is always changing. As a project manager, it’s essential for me to continuously enhance and adapt my skills to effectively handle these factors that can impact the project.
As an Executive Assistant, I run the core administrative functions of my organization and technology has made it pretty easier to multitask and deliver excellence.
However, I see my firm struggling o a couple of things due to economic factor in the country.
As a coach, globalization, technology, and the internet positively impact my job as they give me more visibility and afford me a wider range of customer base.
while as a writer, the AI writing tools innovation has placed my job at risk of being taken over. I have been able to adapt to this change by harnessing my advantage of being a human into my write-ups, which is inputting emotions into my writing which AI cannot do in real-time except otherwise programmed.
These changes are good and needed for development, but a PM should be able to understand how to respond to these complexities and changes as it affects the project at hand per time

As a social media strategist, advancement in technology makes my job easier and at the same time difficult. It makes my way easier because it provides me with more tools and applications which helps me get more work done within the shortest possible time. It makes my work difficult and demanding, which to offer my clients optimal service, I need to be up to date with the latest trend.
Political changes play a great role, because everything revolves around government policies.
Competition motivates organizations to foster innovation through the adoption of modern technology. Technology helps make job faster and easier. Social changes guides the way an organization operates

Considering these major global issues like technology which has brought positive impact on project making communications and work be done effectively and timely.
competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems has a negative impact on projects. More competitors are rising every day, the political and environmental problems in our country has brought about high cost of tools and some political laws which are detrimental to the project.
In the normal business environment, these are factors that will constantly affect the internal and external framework and operation of business. As I’ve learned over time, that the business environment is dynamic. As a project manager, I must constantly update and acquire skills relevant for navigating through this factors that can affect the project
Global challenges like social, environmental, and political shifts have adversely affected businesses and organizations, particularly in Nigeria, where they strive to stay relevant amid numerous hurdles. Nonetheless, technological advancements have significantly contributed to growth and job creation.

Technology has helped greatly in my profession as a baker. But the social and political changes in my country has made things so hard, that one cannot be able to access some gadget in manufacturing process because of the hike in price of goods.
My experience as a digital project manager is not different from that in the video. Agile framework helps a project manager to carry out projects in short iterations creating solutions with active feedback and contributions from users. Short sprints produces viable products with room for feed back to ensure that user needs are being met and value created.
The challenges of volatility and uncertainty can significantly impact organizations in various ways and manifest in projects as follows:
Strategic Planning Disruption: Volatility and uncertainty make long-term planning difficult as market conditions, customer preferences, and competitive landscapes rapidly change presenting a chaotic scenario. Organizations have to constantly struggle in being able to set clear strategic objectives and continued need to reassess and adapt operational plans.
Resource Allocation Challenges: Fluctuations in market conditions make it challenging to allocate resources effectively as organizations have to make quick decisions about resource allocation in response to changing priorities and needs.
Risk Management Complexity: Volatility and uncertainty presents a higher risk profile for projects with an increase in the likelihood of unexpected risks and disruptions. This means that organizations must continually assess and manage risks to project timelines, budgets, and outcomes. This establishes the need for robust risk management strategies to mitigate potential impacts.
Stakeholder Uncertainty: Uncertainty can lead to increased anxiety and skepticism from stakeholders – customers, investors, and employees. This presents a challenge of maintaining stakeholder confidence and trust requiring a proactive engagement to manage anxieties and address concerns.
Project Scope Changes: Volatility and uncertainty present a challenge of shifting project requirements and priorities. Projects may need to accommodate frequent scope changes or pivot to address evolving needs or market dynamics. This situation requires agile project management approaches with flexibility in project execution.
Budgetary Pressures: Economic volatility can impact project budgets, leading to constraints and cost overruns. Organizations will need to adjust financial plans and allocate resources more judiciously to ensure projects remain viable and sustainable.
In summary, organizations must cultivate a culture of resilience, agility, and adaptability in executing projects in an unpredictable environment and embracing innovation to capitalize on emerging opportunities despite the volatility and uncertainty in the operating environment.
The VUCA framework—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity—provides a useful lens for understanding and responding to the challenges posed by dynamic and unpredictable environments. Responding to the challenges as a project manager requires analytical/critical and problem solving skills. There is a need to leverage the VUCA framework effectively to be able to succeed and deliver outputs/outcomes with benefit:
Volatility: Need for recognition that change is constant and unpredictable. Need to embrace agility and flexibility in the approach to planning and execution. Focusing on building resilience and the ability to respond quickly to unexpected developments rather than trying to predict specific outcomes. This may involve scenario and change management planning where you not only anticipate various potential scenarios but prepare contingency plans and change management processes accordingly.
Uncertainty: With uncertainty inevitable, there will be a need to cultivate adaptability and a willingness to experiment and learn from feedback. Adopting a culture of innovation and creativity equips teams feel to explore new ideas and approaches to confront new and evolving challenges.
Complexity: This highlights the fact that challenges that presents itself are interconnected and multifaceted. Calls for holistic view of the situation, capturing the wider context of the situation in all its diversity and the interdependencies between different variables. This will require breaking down complex problems into smaller and more manageable units. By so doing, cross-functional teams can collaborate to leverage diverse perspectives and expertise to proffer solutions.
Ambiguity: Ambiguity is a common theme inherent in uncertain environments, implying that not all questions will have clear answers. The courage to embrace ambiguity as an opportunity for exploration and discovery is critical where it is encountered. Creating an atmosphere of open communications in projects and fostering a learning mindset are useful opportunities for learning, growth and improvement.
In summary, using the VUCA framework serves as a tool for understanding and responding to challenges in a rapidly changing global business context. By embracing VUCA, a project manager can develop resilience, agility, and adaptability in an organization rather than being overwhelmed by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity sometimes encountered in dynamic and unpredictable environments.
Global issues have positive and negative impact on businesses and organization. However, they must thrive to beat that effect by advancing in technology by creating new strategies that will further increase growth and productivity.
Global issues such as social, environmental and political changes have had negative impacts on businesses and organizations especially here in Nigeria as businesses push so hard to remain relevant despite the various challenges faced. Global issues like rapid technological advancements, fierce competition, societal shifts, political unrest, and the environmental crisis impact the organization and projects by necessitating adaptability, innovative solutions, sustainable practices, and a keen awareness of changing landscapes to remain relevant, competitive, and socially responsible in a rapidly evolving world.
The effects of social and political changes in my country has cost an impact in a negative way. In such that the number of project carried out in a year has reduced, the amount of commodities in the market are quite expensive which brought about reduction. The area of technology has been of great impact, creating employment, and growth in the areas of tech.
The social and political changes in my country has impacted the number o projects that my organisation is able to conduct in a year and has also drastically reduced the scope of the projects been undertaken as a result of insufficient supply of resources and ack of adequate manpower to carry out some technical aspects of the projects
Blessing Siya Ukpabi-Willi
In my organisation, we aren’t left out in the challenges that other organizations face. For instance,
Technology: has affected the way slot of things are been done. Though, in my opinion technology has been of tremendous benefit us. Fast and easy dissemination of crucial information has been enabled even at short notices. Technology has helped to bring the workers together and has also provided tools that makes work easy and efficient. Although, there are still concerns about the negative aspects of technology.
Environmental problems such as global warming also affected my organisation because children outdoors has been threatened by the extreme weather during the day time in most of the outdoor activities take place.
In the hospital where I work,
1. Technology – this has really helped us in discharging our duties well and fast. Example is the laboratory department of the hospital. The machines used are a result of technology which in turn makes our patients happy because they wouldn’t need to come back for results expect on rare occasions where it depends on the kind of investigation they run. Also, social media has made advertisement very easy for us as people who hasn’t heard about us will get to see us online and want to patronize us .
Emails also makes communication very easy to disseminate.
2. Competition – this has enabled us up our games and made us discovered our competitive advantage over our competitors.
3. Government policies – the economic challenge we face in our country is a general challenge which we also face in our organization. This affects prices of goods and services and in turn affects the price of our services to our customers. How we were able to pull through is by being fair enough with our prices despite the economic changes.
These global issues can have significant impacts on organizations and projects across various sectors. Below are a few of them:
1.Technology: Rapid advancements in technology can both empower and challenge organizations. Embracing new technologies can enhance efficiency, improve products or services, and open new markets. For example, in my IT Support professional, remote connectivity has enhanced the way we support our clients. This has enhanced our time management and reduction in cost of transportation from a location to another, in project delivery. Also, we have embraced Automation in carrying out our activities such as AMI (Automated Metering Infrastructure) that allow my organization to manage meters remotely and eventually increases our revenue collection. However, staying abreast of technological changes requires organizations to navigate issues such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies.
2. Competition: Globalization has intensified competition across industries. In my organizations we are continuously innovating to stay ahead of competitors, whether through product differentiation, cost leadership, or other strategies. For example, some of our Maximum demand customers in power industry are given reduced rate to keep them in business with us. Understanding market dynamics, consumer preferences, and emerging trends is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge.
3.Social and Political Change: Societal and political shifts can have profound implications for organizations. Changes in demographics, values, and attitudes can impact consumer behavior and demand. Moreover, shifts in government policies, regulations, and geopolitical dynamics can affect market conditions, supply chains, and business operations. As Organizations we are staying attuned to these changes and adapt their strategies accordingly.
4.Environmental Crisis: Climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation pose significant challenges for organizations , our inclusive. Increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices and reduce carbon emissions necessitates changes in power generation processes, distribution chain management, and product design. Failing to address environmental concerns not only risks reputational damage but also regulatory penalties and distribution chain disruptions.

In the educational sector where I work, technology has been of great help. It has helped to make teaching easier for the teachers by introduction of various learning materials and online teaching sites. Also, it makes it fun for the students by inclusion of various curricular and extracurricular activities . This has cause a kind of competition especially for onsite schools where they have to adapt to technological changes so as not to be left behind.
Environment crisis as well as social and political changes can affect educational sector negatively. These include strikes, naira scarcity, unfavourable governmental policies, e. t. c. In spite of all these issues, the educational sector is gradually adjusting to the challenges and trying to do the needful under these circumstances.
Working within the telecommunications industry, we constantly feel the influence of our competitors’ actions, both in terms of the quality of service they offer and the pricing of our own products and services.
Furthermore, technological advancements play a crucial role in shaping the quality of our services. A robust technological infrastructure not only enhances our network strength but also expands our customer base significantly.
As an organization, our operations are governed by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC). This regulatory body oversees pricing structures for all telecom products, sets guidelines for handling unregistered lines, imposes sanctions for non-compliance, and ensures adherence to industry standards.
Finally, we are guided by the National Environmental Standards Regulation and Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to ensure that our operations have a positive impact on the environment.
In my home, technology has become the vehicle that drive virtually everything. Ranging from communication to meals preparation and even to normal day to day running of the home. While there are lots of goodness that technology brings to the home, it can cause harzards and distort the traditional ways of doing things. it sometimes causes laxity and unintentionality in doing what should be done and in keeping to time too.
In a teaching and learning environment where I work that’s a school.
Technology has taken over most of the jobs of the secretaries. The lesson plan are posted online and the examination results are posted on line. Most Schools now operate the E- learning methods due to environmental crisis, during the COVID-19 era and after the era most schools adopted teaching online.
Online teaching brought competition amongst different schools who want to make it easier for their students. This also helps in protecting the students from contracting the virus and for security reasons.
The world is getting more complex by the day and the school environment is adjusting to the complexity.
Working as a technical trainer I experience a lot of complexity do to political and social changes but enrolling for these PM training, what I have learnt so far is making to understand the ethics and the dynamics of change and how to overcome them. Take for instants, having a project at hand there are so many things that can lead to the closure or stopping of the project.
A) like the issue of environmental
Pollutions and these environmental pollution could be, the discharge from the project is coursing more damage to the environment.
B) So as PM we must thick about being environment friendly with our project hence we must put in place good waste management system in all our yard and site as this if not done can lead to a show stopper.
C) The political arena could also lead to a project stoppage as government policies might lead to high cost, inflation might also set in leading to failure to purchase equipments. However were the PM is proactive, he will be ahead of all this issues as the team would captured most of this in the initial planning of the project.
All changes affects any projects execution as this can serve as a blocker, increase cost of executing project or stop a project abruptly.
Take for ihstance in Nigeria, project execution was affected in Lekki, Lagos state when then end Sars protest was on. Other facts such as fuel increment, weather abnormalities can adversely project execution.
As a lawyer technological advancement has greatly affected me because I came to find that we my 8 years of experience and knowledge of the Law is not enough to help me thrive in my profession as a result of the current technological advancement. With that in mind, I have been pushed to also equip myself with relevant technological knowledge necessary to help me thrive. This is one of the reasons I enrolled for the project management course.
Also, working in a real estate company, my organization is largely affected by social and political changes as well as competition. There re so many real estate companies popping up on a daily basis and this has created so much competition in the industry as a result, there’s a need to constantly improve yourself to stay relevant.
In the field in which I work, competition is a significant obstacle to obtaining funding and resources.
We have to differentiate our impact, collaborate effectively, invent, and exhibit transparency and accountability in other to access funding and resources.
As an entrepreneur, big global issues can have effect on my business such as:
1. Technology: Swift advancement in technology can pose challenges for me when i am unable to match the rate of change, resulting in the obsolescence of my goods or services, heightened rivalry from tech-savvy competitors, and an ongoing requirement for investment in new technologies to remain relevant
2. Competition: As an entrepreneur, I may find it challenging to stand out in crowded markets, and continue to be profitable in the face of fierce international competition. Reduced market share, pricing pressure, and the requirement for ongoing innovation to maintain competitiveness are further consequences of increased competition.
3. Social and Political Change: By affecting consumer behavior, market demand, and regulatory environments, changes in norms of society, consumer preferences, and political environments can have an effect on me as an entrepreneur. The operations of businesses can be impacted by political unpredictability, complicated regulations, and shifting societal expectations, all of which can be challenging for me as an entrepreneur.
Recognising that project management is not immune from global matters is a key take away of this module. It is a notable fact that all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by global issues and events of the world they operate in. Technology, competition, political changes and many global issues are affecting organization and project at large. All this poses a threat to a Project Manager and a project manager must learn how the world is constantly changing in other to fit in perfectly.
One major global issues in my organization is political changes. I serve in a government parastatal and no doubt majority of the involvement are political. However, political changes has poses several threat in such a way that alot of projects are been abandoned after spending so much. For instance, a project was on going when Mr A was the head of the organization and they have a clear plan of how the project will run and they were working on it but Mr B was posted to the organization when Mr A was posted to another organization. Mr B doesn’t see a need to further the project or he is not seeing the usefulness of the project, in other words the project could not continue. This was a whole lot of discouragement for members.
However it is imminent that there will always be political changes but as a Project Manager, it is also essential to prepare oneself for the hard days ahead.
Looking forward to learn better in this module
Big global issues, such as technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis, ask yourself how do these affect my organisation and my projects?
As an engineer, my observation has been lack of contracts and demand, ongoing contracts are been suspended and staff loosing thier jobs that is as a resolve of the pandemic. My organisation or industry is yet to pick up as it were. The available contracts are been dragged by so many companies leading to politicizing the process. Those who has people though with out the capabilities ends up getting the contracts. This has lead to so many fetal accidents and down time.

Technology, Global issue, Instability, environmental, Political and social changes and so on are factors organizations don’t play with because they have the power to turn project/organization in the right direction or not.
One of my experience was when I started working with Insurance company over a decade ago, Third Party INSURANCE, then we practically beg people to buy it but all of a sudden government came and made it a must for all vehicle owners and police were impounding people’s car for not having this increase the sales of Third party in Insurance in the industry drastically and it really helped the industry.
Technology, Competition, Social & Political changes and Environmental problems have affected so many projects and organization in many ways which I shall list few below;
1. AI have been introduced to assist the society but most people use it for selfish gain whereby reducing the amount of workers needed for a project just to be able to squander money and other resources.
2. Reduction in efficiency of projects due to environmental problems
3. Change in power of government terminates or reduces the ability to accomplish an existing project.
4. High rate of competition in the society leads to reduction in quality of project due to quick time of execution of projects to be accomplished.
These few points shows that; Technology, Competition, Social & Political changes and Environmental problems have one or two defects on projects and an organization as a whole…
Technology. Social & Political changes as well as Environmental problems affect the entirety of the company structure as well as the overall service delivery.
With the advent of AI, for instance, the world is tilting towards a more enhanced technological approach with less reliance on human methodologies or input.
With social and political changes, new policies can cause economic upheavals which may overturn businesses with restrictions or unforeseen complications that can limit or enhance a company’s performance within particular regions.
Environmental problems like Covid for instance caused a global reset and a new approach to work culture and service delivery, limiting a few businesses, and creating new opportunities for new product/service entrants, which may only have been possible for a long while.
Thinking about Complexity
Currently thinking about global issues such as technology – we are entering into the AI space which I forsee will bring alot of disruptions in the technology space. This will affect my organization because it is a tech company and am sure the organization will look into ways of implementing AI for the benefits that come with it.
Of course, global issues affect the organization’s projects.
Both in the aspects of the economy and technology.
Having to deal with the high-rises in products and materials.
Environmental and socio-political issues are crumbling a lot of organization’s projects.
Considering these major global issues like technology which has brought positive impact on project making communications and work be don’t effectively and timely.
competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems has a negative impact on projects. More competitors are rising every day, the political and environmental problems in our country has brought about high cost of tools and some political laws which are detrimental to the project.
The global issues affect our organisation greatly. It can either affect it positively, in the sense that it brings improvement or growth in terms of improvement in the technology, meeting up with the current needs of the society, creating strategies that will help the organisation be above their competitors and also bring about adaptability. But in a case where the organisation lacks in the aspects, global issues tends to affect them negatively.
Global issues would have melt down a lot of projects but, all thanks to the ever evolving technology that has really resolved the issues making work so easy and achievable
These big global issues affect our organization and projects in various ways. Advancements in technology can either improve our work or make our current methods outdated. Competition, especially with globalization, means we need to constantly check how we compare to others and find ways to stand out. Social and political changes, like new laws or shifts in what people want, can influence how we do business. Environmental problems, such as climate change, can disrupt our supply chain and affect our reputation. By keeping an eye on these issues and adapting when needed, we can tackle challenges and find new opportunities for growth in our ever-changing world.
Thinking about the issue at hand I would say that technology has done a lot of improvements in the aspect of making work easier and more engaging and also bought about competition, social, political changes and environmental problems. It has helped organization to be able to adapt to structure or level of the organization in the global market now.
With the world rapidly evolving and recessions and depressions gradually setting in, in most countries, for projects to be effectively executed, for example, in the Institution I work for, one must adapt adequately to changes, be able to manage resources, communicate effectively, be as honest and transparent as possible so as to ensure that projects are carried out and tasks are effectively executed. Feedbacks as well as teamwork are also key as well.
New technologies can revolutionize operations, streamline processes, and enhance productivity. Embracing innovative tech solutions can give organization a competitive edge and improve project efficiency. Conversely, failing to adapt to technological changes may result in inefficiencies or missed opportunities. changes in societal norms, preferences, and behaviors can influence consumer demands and market dynamics. Understanding and aligning with social trends can help organization anticipate customer needs and tailor projects accordingly. For instance, shifting demographics or evolving consumer preferences may require adjustments in product offerings or marketing strategies.
Technology has made work so easy , we no longer have to wait for days to get our job done, technology has made things easier and cost effective, as a project manager, technology is one of the things that makes our work so easier, we have readily available tools , easy to navigate through
New technologies can disrupt entire industries and create new opportunities. Projects may need to adapt quickly to stay relevant, requiring flexibility and a focus on innovation. Competition can intensify as companies from different countries compete for market share. Projects may need to be more cost-effective and efficient to remain competitive. Additionally, global teams working on projects might face challenges with communication and cultural differences. Political instability or social unrest can disrupt supply chains, transportation, and access to resources. Environmental regulations and resource scarcity can affect project costs and timelines. Projects may need to be designed with sustainability in mind, using resources efficiently and minimizing environmental impact.
All these brought me to this question,
How has new technology impacted the way my organization operates, and what project opportunities or challenges has this created?
Has my organization faced any disruptions due to social or political issues?
Thinking about complexity involves recognizing that systems, situations, and problems often consist of interconnected and interdependent elements that influence one another in non-linear ways. This perspective requires considering the multifaceted nature of challenges, acknowledging that simple solutions may not always address the underlying issues. So my first project management experience would be managing a volunteer team from different universities from across Nigeria, I had no idea what to do so I winged it. After a while I realized a structure was needed and started putting one in place, it wasn’t easy and it’s still not fully functional. I keep experimenting because I had to recruit more people and everyone seems to have different work behaviours. There has been growth I won’t deny that but also a lot of heartbreaks and challenges.
Currently, I’m managing the creation of our organizational website and since it’s volunteer work the progress is quite slow.
So the main challenge is getting everyone to work efficiently without much supervision.
Change is an inevitable aspect of life. Staying abreast of information keeps an organization relevant.
In healthcare, competition, technology, political inclination, environmental crisis among others have their impact on our projects. Then the advent of A.I which has the tendency to run diverse roles in healthcare services obsolete.
Competition with the human resources has been a tradition for organizations but with computer softwares and applications has another level to it.
In order to show our clients and stakeholders that our values and ethics such as sustainability, flexibility and trust among others are still in place, we will include door delivery, App/ Group one can consult with the doctor, a mobile nurse and so on to improve our services and expand our clientele.
Political inclination can be very tricky but systems can be put in place that does not demean the ethics of the organization as well as the profession.
We will add paid volunteering to our rules, during environmental crisis; a certain part of the workforce are deployed to help during such occurrence.
In the organization where I work we face challenges on dynamics in global of global issue. However, it is required for individuals
in an organizations to be agile, forward-thinking, and socially responsible. To thrive in todays complex environment, project should be adaptable to landscapes, responsive to stakeholder needs, and committed to sustainable practices.
Technology is constantly changing our world and is unquestionably important to the success of projects in the IT industry where we work. In order to be competitive and current in this field, one must be flexible and prepared to make an impression with ground-breaking inventions. One must adjust new project execution tactics in light of social and political shifts that affect consumer behavior, the regulatory environment, and market dynamics.
Thinking about those big global issues, such as technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis, ask yourself how do these affect my organisation and my projects?
The emergence and continuous development of technology has helped my organisation grow organically and created more competitiveness in the marketplace projecting the organisation in the social limelight. Although the global issue on cybersecurity is a threat to the finanacial institution.
Technology has played a significant role in changing how projects are initiated, managed and delivered. Technology has enabled remote management of multiple projects in different locations. It should be however noted that some of these technological advancements could be disruptive. Its therefore necessary that the modern day project manager is equipped with the necessary knowledge to enable him navigate the complexities associated with current project management trends.
I have learned to work under any condition especially to manage stress at work. As a project manager I have worked in harsh political society and despite the global economic issues. The political l, technological transition as all of these evolves we as a project facilitator and management we must be evolving too. This is called advancement.
New Technology has a good effect and a bad one on how project management works. The political and social upheavals in the world are another thing that can not be underrated because of how often it affects certain projects from coming to it’s final stages
I had reflection of issues had in the past while working this module has broaden my knowledge on better decision making and conflict management.
in my place of work, I have now understood how to resolve complex issues surrounding the work environment.
Many things in our world today is facilitated by political power. They use their political positions to influence many things thereby not giving room for the brilliant ones to have a head way and also make decisions
The technology industry’s rapid evolution has been a boon for my organization, creating exciting new opportunities and fueling my own personal skill development.
In a transient world like the fashion industry, flowing with the tide of change is key. Adaptability to the trends keeps us at an upbeat. Nonetheless our values as a house is the anchor on which we stand
The organization where I work has been greatly impacted by current trends and information & communication technology which has placed PM and management on their toes to remain relevant.
Nevertheless, Project managers are still very much needed. Being able to combine all the factors of production as well as available resources (finances, technology, etc.) in a manner that organizes the project into a well-structured plan of execution and also to see the maximizing of these resources to meet the desired project goal of the client remains the duty of the Project Manager.
Looking at the organization where I work in an internet business consulting service company, technology, competition, and global change can significantly impact our business by influencing market dynamics, client needs, and the competitive landscape. To thrive in this dynamic environment, consulting firms just like mine must remain adaptable, innovative, and customer-focused, continuously evolving our services and capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the digital economy.
Technology is constantly changing our world and is unquestionably important to the success of projects in the IT industry where we work. In order to be competitive and current in this field, one must be flexible and prepared to make an impression with ground-breaking inventions. One must adjust new project execution tactics in light of social and political shifts that affect consumer behaviour, the regulatory environment, and market dynamics.
In my Organization, technology, completion, political changes and environmental problem, can greatly have an impact on the organization and the project at large..
Firstly, in the case of technology, the world is growing at a very rapid rate, so technology is overing the world, when an organization can not meet up with the technological changes,it will greatly affect it .
‘Thinking About Complexity’
This deals with focusing on how to mange projects in a complicated world.
From my own view, the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguous (VUCA) framework are the tools that helps to build an awareness of the organization’s situation and hellps develop suitable responses to the challenges that are faced in external or macro environment.
This concept was created and used by the US military in the 1980s in the context of volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous.
Volatility: this shows how unstable chang could be, an unexpected and frequent variation above the reference level.
Uncertainty: this shows lack of knowledge of the decision, ramifications and how they are unfold.
Complexity: this also shows the challenge of making sense in a situation that involves interconnected parts, processes and players. This could also be a result as a change in commodity. In a complex world, not all situation encountered in project work are complex.
Ambiguous: this may result as a lack of understanding of ’cause and effect’ which happens where there is no prediction.
All organizations and their projects are affected by any of the four VUCA challenges which can directly or indirectly affects project success.
Researches were carried out by the Association of Project Managers in the UK where conditions were identified for a successful project work.
*securing fund
*capable sponsors
*aligned supply chain
*supportive organizations
*goals and objectives
*end-users and operators
*commitment to project success
All this conditions are applicable to combat many challenges for a successful project work.
Some global issues and their impact on my organization and projects I am involved in:
Technology: Technological advancements have become a driving force behind organizational transformation. Businesses that fail to adapt may find themselves left behind by their more innovative competitors. Embracing new technologies can lead to competitive advantages and innovation.
Social changes: Social changes and evolving consumer preferences can significantly impact my organization, affecting their brand image, market positioning, and long-term viability.
Political Changes: Political decisions, including policy changes, trade regulations, and government incentives, have a direct impact on my organization’ operations and growth prospects. For example, a shift in trade policies can disrupt global supply chains and affect international business.
Global issues like technology, competition, political changes and environmental issues impact my organisation and the way we manage our facilities:
Technological changes and advancements occur very fast and very often and embracing them helps to improve our efficiency. For example, advancements in Building Management System(BMS) , Internet of things(IoTs), etc makes facility management(FM) much easier. However, there is also an increase in cyber security threats like hacking which we have to tackle.
Increase in competition in the facility management industry means we have to be more efficient and professional in our approaches to maintain our competitive edge.
Government laws and policies affects our FM strategies and approaches for different facilities so we have to keep abreast with laws and regulations to avoid sanctions. Political tensions can also lead to disruption in activities.
Environmental issues has lead to an increased awareness of sustainable facilities and facilities management to handle environmental issues like pollution, waste management, water resources usage and management, etc.
Let’s break down each of these global issues and their potential impacts on my organization and its projects:
Technology: Rapid advancements in technology can both enhance and disrupt my organization and its projects. Embracing new technologies can improve efficiency, productivity, and innovation. However, failure to adapt to technological changes may result in falling behind competitors or missing out on opportunities. Additionally, issues such as cybersecurity threats or ethical considerations surrounding emerging technologies may require careful navigation.
Competition: Intensifying competition, both locally and globally, can impact my organization’s market share, pricing strategies, and customer base. Understanding your competitors’ strengths and weaknesses is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. Moreover, disruptive competitors or new market entrants can challenge your organization’s position, requiring continuous adaptation and innovation.
Social and Political Change: Shifts in societal attitudes, cultural norms, and political landscapes can influence consumer preferences, regulatory environments, and stakeholder expectations. Social movements and government policies related to issues such as diversity, equity, and sustainability may necessitate adjustments in your organization’s practices and strategies. Moreover, geopolitical tensions or changes in trade policies can affect supply chains and market dynamics.
Environmental Crisis: The environmental crisis, including climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss, poses significant risks and opportunities for my organization. Increasing awareness and regulations related to environmental sustainability may require you to adopt eco-friendly practices, reduce carbon emissions, and incorporate sustainability into your products or services. Moreover, environmental disruptions, such as natural disasters or supply chain disruptions, can impact your operations and profitability.
Considering these global issues, it’s essential for my organization to conduct regular assessments, anticipate potential risks and opportunities, and adapt your strategies accordingly. Collaboration with stakeholders, continuous monitoring of external trends, and fostering a culture of innovation and agility can help mitigate risks and capitalize on emerging opportunities in an ever-changing global landscape.
In our evolving world, technology continues to reshape our landscape and undeniably contributes to project success in the tech space where work. To remain relevant and competitive in this space, one has to be adaptive and ready to stand out through mind-blowing innovations. With the impact of social and political changes to the market dynamics, regulatory framework and consumer behaviour, one has to adapt new strategies to executing projects.
Technology has broaden peoples mindset about deliverables in a project. Fir instance, the construction industry has experienced a tremendous shift from the usual contemporary design and construction. This drive cannot be treated in isolation with the natural resources to make them serve better.
Globalisation has also created a greater mobilization of practices, culture, project designs, implementation techniques.
This has created an enormous complexity in the way of doing things.
I work at Project SustyEd, a firm focused on Education for Sustainable Development and because we educate organizations and communities, schools and governments on the global environmental, economic and social challenges we face, the complex global issues have direct significant implications for our projects.
Technology:
Advancements in technology present both opportunities and challenges for sustainability education firms. On one hand, technology enables innovative teaching methods, such as online courses, virtual reality simulations, and interactive learning platforms, which can enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of sustainability education. On the other hand, rapid technological changes may require continuous updates to educational materials and methodologies to remain relevant. Additionally, technology-driven industries may create new sustainability challenges that require novel educational approaches to address.
Competition:
Increased competition in the education sector may compel us to differentiate ourselves through unique offerings, such as specialized curriculum, partnerships with industry leaders, or experiential learning opportunities while driving innovation and collaboration within the sector, leading to the development of more effective teaching methods and curriculum content.
Social and political change:
Shifts in societal values and priorities towards sustainability can create opportunities for us to expand our reach and influence. For example, growing public awareness of climate change has increased demand for education on sustainable practices. Also, political changes, such as the implementation of new environmental regulations or policies, also influence the focus and content of sustainability education programs.
Environmental crisis:
The environmental crisis serves as both a motivation and a challenge for us because the increased awareness of environmental issues is leading to increased demand for education on topics such as renewable energy, conservation, and sustainable development which earns us more projects and clients. However, the urgency of addressing environmental challenges also puts pressure on us to deliver impactful solutions quickly. This may require adapting curriculum content to reflect the most pressing environmental issues and incorporating practical solutions into educational programs.
These global issues significantly impact my organization and projects. The healthcare organizations need to keep up with new tech, stand out in a crowded market, adapt to society’s changes, and deal with more patients when environmental problems affect health. In terms of
– Technology: New tools like video appointments and digital records make healthcare easier and faster.
– Competition: Hospitals and clinics compete to offer the best care, like businesses competing for customers.
– Social and Political Changes: Changes in society and laws affect how healthcare works, like more older people needing care or new rules about insurance.
– Environmental Problems: Pollution and other environmental issues can make people sick, so healthcare has to deal with more patients with certain illnesses.
The strategies that well suit my situation as suggested by the project managers are
– constant communication with all lines of control planning.
– communication in advance and tailoring my communication to suit the person sitting right in front of me
– giving reports constantly
– making sure everyone is working on the same schedule.
– Not being afraid to being bring up bad news but make sure to analyze my options and bring positive solutions but never bring up bad news as the first agenda of the meeting.
Technology has a huge impact on projects and generally on the organization in terms of productivity, growth innovation and overall success of any project. My organization has been able to adopt Technology to enhance quality of outcomes by ensuring that project team members are exposed to helpful knowledge in technology that would make them more productive also by being open to innovative ideas .
In the aspect of social and political changes and environmental problems and its impacts on projects, We are not unaware that changes are inevitable and problems may occur in the process of working on a project. The impact of these changes and problems can be quite challenging sometimes as it can affect plans , budget, execution of projects, etc but the fact that my organization is aware that these are bound to happen from time to time , applying some flexibility while still focused on the goal of the organization helps. This makes us think solution and find ways to navigate through challenges .
Global challenges such as economic downturns, supply chain disruptions, remote work requirements, regulatory changes, market instability, and cross-cultural collaboration can significantly impact project managers by affecting resource availability, project timelines, budgets, stakeholder priorities, communication strategies, and teamwork dynamics.
These global issues significantly impact my organization and projects. Technology shapes how work is done, competition necessitates innovation and differentiation, social and political changes influence consumer behavior and regulatory environments, and the environmental crisis requires sustainable practices and adaptation to changing landscapes. Staying attuned to these factors is essential for navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in today’s dynamic business environment.
The world is tilting towards technology based activities amidst lots of competitions to upgrade and stay seasoned. My organization prides itself in technological advancement and it’s thriving better than surrounding competitors.
Being upto date with latest technological advancements is key in my organization and should be for others as well. You need to always monitor and consider the changes in technology and processes and always strive to adapt to changes that enhances your processes.
Such may lead to Software upgrades, incorporating AI in technology e.t.c.
Competition is good because it brings out the best in my organization. Without competition, my organization would have remain stagnant and complacent, but knowing that we are in a competitive market, it makes us to work harder and be the best at what we do.
Also technology has helped drastically to implement some of our policies and to increase our efficiency and productivity
I am Odunyemi Ayooluwa David
Change is the only constant thing in life ,and as project managers we need to adapt, grow and evolve with the current and recent happenings in the world in terms of technology ,innovation and what have you for effectiveness.
Change is one constant thing and it is inevitable in life, organizations and our environments and we must adapt to theses changes as they come. As a prospective project manager, I consider that global topics such as technology advancements, competition, social & political changes, and environmental crises has the potential to greatly affect organizations and projects. The preferences of consumers can be impacted by social shifts, and environmental crises can threaten operations. Adaptation may be necessary to stay competitive during technological shifts, and political changes can have an impact on regulatory movements. Organizations must manage these dynamics to thrive and ensure that projects are aligned with the changing global landscape.
Change is certainly a constant thing in life and we all must adapt to them or change with them for free flow of business and organization, for instance, I used to use excel sheets to track and give instructions until I was introduced to teamgant although I am not that very good at it yet but it’s making it easier for me to track my teams efforts. As a PM I believe we must be ready to learn everyday and change to new technology for easier project follow up.
As we grow the world changes, gone at those days when the architect uses sketching as a tool, now it’s been done on the computer system using design and making life easy. As a project manager we need to try develop our skills not only in communication, team management and more but also in the tech world. For example using teamgantt will go a long way and make life faster and easier as a project manager, lact of adapting to the tech world makes the time frame for the project extended.
In our rapidly evolving world, technology continues to reshape our landscape and undeniably contributes to project success in the tech space where I work. To remain relevant and competitive in this space, one has to be adaptive and ready to stand out through mind-blowing innovations. With the impact of social and political changes to the market dynamics, regulatory framework and consumer behaviour, one has to adapt new strategies to executing projects . Also it becomes vital to put into consideration sustainable product designs and operations given the environmental crisis, By so doing, I believe one is able to mitigate risks, seize opportunities, and make meaningful contributions.
Change is inevitable in life and in organization as well. As the world is evolving, the invent of technology has impacted lives and organizations both positively and negatively depending on how you use these technologies.
Technology has impacted me as an individual positively, as I’m being exposed to online learning, attending online conferences and seminars in different field and lot more. For my organization, technology has impacted the teaching and learning process, these learning content are online for learners to access them, study the learning content and give feedback which will be evaluated by the teacher/facilitator.
As the world is transforming into the digital world, we should embrace these digital skills to be efficient and effective in our organization.
Change is inevitable and as such, the business world would always have to devise a means to adapt to changes, bearing in mind that it could have a positive or negative effect. Technological advancement for example as seen project managers work via Teams and google meet and not necessarily face to face as it used to be at a time.
Competition can imply that project managers and organisations have to devise means to improve on quality of service and product delivery to gain an advantage and remain relevant.
Social and political factors can have an influence by determining how projects responds to new trends, regulations and governmental legislations that affect them.
Technology has made work easy and seamless but some of our older colleagues in my place of work find it difficult to work with digital project management tools which slow the speed of implementation. However, embracing new technologies can boost efficiency, but non adapting can lead to lag behind especially in a very competitive market. Which
In our world today where there’s rapid changes in technology and other things, as a project manager it can either affect you negatively or positively while trying to achieve a project.
For example, innovations in technology like TeamGantt, has helped Project managers to effectively plan their project thereby using the hybrid method to achieve his plans in a better way rather than using the agile method.
Negatively innovative technologies also affects the project of a project manager as his plan work can be exposed to cyber theft.
New technologies can create opportunities for innovation in an organization’s products or services. For example, advancements in artificial intelligence could revolutionize the way an organization operates or the type of products it offers.
However, as technology advances, so do cyber threats. Your organization might need to implement stricter security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure project continuity.
Technological advancements like BIM and drones, coupled with fierce competition, drive organizations to innovate and streamline operations. Social and political shifts, from demographic changes to regulatory reforms, influence project requirements and timelines.
By embracing innovation, ensuring compliance, and prioritizing sustainability, construction organizations can navigate complexities and thrive in an evolving global landscape, delivering projects that meet the needs of today while safeguarding the future.
Technology has made work seamless but some of the old staff in my organization find it difficult to work with digital project management tools which slow the speed of implementation.
Change is the only constant thing in life. With new innovations and inventions on technology, every organization is expected to align and adapt to the current trends in technological advancement and see how to harness it positively to get a desired outcomes.
However, embracing new technologies can boost efficiency, but not adapting can lead to falling behind especially in a very competitive market.
Well as a project staff in an organization I say technology has done us real good in making the work easier. In different aspect either in communication, advocacy and stakeholders engagement it has foster user friendly and help in boosting relationship.
The impact of global issues on my organization and projects.well I would say Advancements in technology can enhance or disrupt your projects. Embracing new tech can boost efficiency, but not adapting can lead to falling behind.
Plus, global competition can spur innovation but also pose challenges to market share. Understanding competitors’ strategies is key to staying ahead.
I understand that the changes in society and politics can influence consumer preferences and regulations. Flexibility and awareness are crucial for adaptation.Reflecting on these factors helps anticipate challenges and opportunities, guiding strategic decisions and project planning. Sharing experiences with others fosters collaborative problem-solving.
Change is always a constant thing. With the advent and changes in technological advancement, every organization should be able to align and adapt to the current trends in technology and see how they can harness it positively to get their desired results.
Change is the only constant phenomenon that happens in our today world. With Advent of Media, Ai, Google and the likes making information readily available at the palms of people has mandated the organisation to be up and doing to keep up with ethical standards. A clear example can be seen in the health industries where people are increasingly knowledgeable about their health conditions, sign and symptoms treatment course and others makes it compulsory that the health care provider have to be up to date in ensuring appropriate management course instiuted.
Secondly with knowledge of bills of right and litigation, the client definitely will be more expectant toward his or her services put more on the provider trying to keep a clear course.
However these change isn’t just bad but also have positive sides like in the aspect telemedicine, medical robots, e-records etc it reduces burnouts, high number of clients for the health provider to see daily and reduces the risk of spreading communicable disease like was seen in the COVID 19 periods.
Change is something that is constant, so every organization should expect change. If there is change or any advancement in technology and global economy, organizations should not be rigid not to adapt to this changes to meet demand and standards.
Rapid advancements in technology has influenced the capabilities and direction of organization’s research and development efforts. Staying at the forefront of technological innovation is crucial for maintaining competitiveness and relevance in the field. Societal attitudes and political change or landscape shape the regulatory environment in which we operate. Environmental crisis as well as climate change has a way of influencing our decision making processes related to resource allocation, energy consumption, and operational practices within the organization.
Considering these factors, the organization must continually assess and adapt its strategies, projects, and operations to navigate the evolving landscape of technology, competition, social and political dynamics, and environmental challenges.
This may involve prioritizing research areas with high societal impact, and fostering collaborations to address complex global issues.
This world effect actually affect managing projects. In the case where there is change of government in a country politically this could affect the cost of a project leading to either shooting out of budget or below. For example if the country economy is affected it has effect on the project.
Secondly, climate change could affect the time frame of a particular project which is natural and uncontrollable.
Thirdly, competitors can actually make either the sponsors of projects to demand speed regardless of meeting standard or group of the managers alter standard to meet up time challenge.
True, Competition can also pose a huge demand on the PM because stake holders, management and sponsors will demand projects to be delivered to stay ahead of the competitors with or without increase in funding. This dilemma may tose the PM into compromise standards In order to meet the demands for increase quantity and supply while undermining quality.
But I think this is where ethical standards and code of conducts comes into play to keep the PM in check.
Secondly unstable government policies and political instabilities deeply interfere with projects and the PM’s performance. Just as we can observe the current inflation rates facing the nations with hikes of prices cut across almost all sectors organizations may want a PM to deliver projects regardless with limited findings or sticking to initial budgets. Well this is also where continuous communication with stake holders and good negotiation skills come into Play. And I I also want to say that pose the need for Contingency plans on the part of the PM.
Social and political change, has had a tremendous effect. Environmental change is also one of the many factors contributing to some organizational failures. Technology has been rather helpful to assist in making the everyday life easier and more productive.
Thinking about complexity – Discussion
My organization, being customer centered and an IT world, understand the important of technology and internet in this modern world which affect the way we run our business. The evolution of technology has challenged us as an organization in improving what we do and how we carry it out. Thus continuous improvement of learning in skills both technical and soft keeps us involved and important in the world we live in right now.
OLUDE ABRAHAM
Technology offers numerous benefits, but excessive hyperconnectivity can lead to stress and exhaustion. To maintain mental health, boundaries and mindfulness are crucial. The physical consequences of 24/7 connectivity include eye strain, hand or wrist pain, sleep deprivation, and overuse injuries. It’s essential to invest in long-term health, especially when spending time on screens for work, entertainment, and school.
Virtual spaces present risks, such as anonymity and sharing information quickly, leading to uncomfortable and dangerous situations. It’s crucial to give ourselves mindful space to process painful feelings. Common side effects include misinformation, bullying, and cyber-attacks, which can cause anxiety, depression, addiction, and mental health disorders. Social media has significantly impacted self-worth, success, and inclusion, which can impact our real world.
As a project manager, I believe global issues such as social and political change, environmental crises, technology and competition as affected us in a good and bad way. Technology has really help alot in an organization because it makes work to be done fast and accurate
Global issues such as technology, competition, social/political change and environmental crisis all impact organizations and the way projects are run. In my organisation, the following adaptations have been made
1) Technology: innovation and new ways of getting job done faster and efficiently using technology is encouraged
2) Competition: What is the competition doing? New service offerings and projects that will give us an edge over our competition is welcomed
3) Social/Political change: Is the social/political climate favourable for our business to thrive? Are these changes creating new business opportunities in line with our company objectives that we can take advantage of?
4) Environmental changes: alternative and safe source of power and energy is being introduced to reduce pollution.
As a project manager, I believe global issues such as social and political change, environmental crises, technology and competition as affected us in a good and bad way. Technology has really help alot in an organization because it makes work to be done faster and accurate
As a project manager, it’s essential to consider how big global issues such as technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis impact our organization and projects. I will just share only on technological factor in our organization and projects.
Rapid technological advancements has availed us of both opportunities and challenges for our organization and projects. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT), and blockchain enable innovative solutions and efficiencies in project management, communication, and execution. However, staying abreast of technological trends and integrating new tools and methodologies into our projects has placed a demand of continuous learning and adaptation. Failure to leverage relevant technologies could result in inefficiencies, reduced competitiveness, or missed opportunities for innovation.
Global issues like technology, competition, social & political changes, environmental crises make world so volatile today. The development of Artificial Intelligence has transformed the way my team and I work today. It’s now important to adapt to these evolutions and the new challenges they impose, at the risk of being left behind.
Projects are been done faster these days with witty innovations. It has enhanced the speed and also expanding the scope of projects in many organisations. Therefore, project managers and project teams needs to adapt to an ever evolving world of science and technology.
Been enlightened and equipped by the latest technologies ruling the present world will help in carrying out your projects successfully, that means to also teach your teams or encourage them to go for trainings on how to handle the latest technological tools, this will put you up the task as a project manager
As a project manager many things affects the delivery of project.
managing stakeholders that enjoy the old ways of doing things especially when u are implementing a new process project in company,
Building and developing oneself will prepare and equip the individual in whatever situation and condition especially in challenging and complex situations/worlds
Embracing technology enables organizations to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and reach a broader customer base.
Social changes Increased customer loyalty: Socially conscious businesses often attract loyal customers who support their mission.
Under political changes, government incentives and grants: Businesses can benefit from financial support for specific initiatives or projects.
Under economic changes, Innovation opportunities: Organizations may explore new ways to operate more efficiently and provide value during challenging economic times.
Raw material availability, supply chain reliability, labor supply, wages, worker expectations, government regulations and consumer demand are all influenced by global issues.
Businesses must contend with different political systems, economic systems and cultures in every market they enter.
The increased global flows of goods, services, and information have both positive and negative effects on organisations ,projects and people’s everyday lives.
Climate change is one of the major challenges of our time. From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale.
My own opinion about how external factors affect or influence organizations’ project is largely on the policy proclaimed by the government and other proposed changes from other influencers.
As a care coordinator, evolving with the changes in technology is very important. It is important to get task done timely and in the most easy way.
Formulate Strategies.
Adjust and adapt to the situation.
Strategic foresight and adaptability is required to Navigating these global issues such as technology, competition, social and political changes if you want to be proactive. There is need to be informed, integrate sustainability and embrace innovation into organizational projects, thereby, capitalize on opportunities, mitigate risks and drive long-term success in achievement of all your projects.
Its been awesome, i love the course, GOD bless ‘those’ behind it
As an entrepreneur technology has helped business and project grow and also increase, new apps and softwares has helped even working remotely wit your staff or vendore very easy whilst you do other things.
competition is on the high side because of technology if you’re not doing well you will not even be seen in the online world.
social changes has affected both positively and negatively
political changes has affected business alot and even projects because most policies affect the prices of materials and goods making it difficult for projects to be delivered within budget.
As a sales manager the technological advancement have really helped in sales but its challenges are enormous considering location, here in Nigeria some factors hinders it like some online shops are not really trust worthy and it makes some customers doubt everyone online
My organization, being customer centric, is one that is more affected by the effect of technology and competition on the way we do business. Globalization has taken competition to greater heights as our competitors could be our neighbors or another similar company in another country. This has challenged us to embrace disruptive innovation and has taught us to consistently look for cheaper and faster ways to deliver our services in a way that our customers would not only be satisfied. We work to ensure that they experience magic. Thus, continuous improvement is our mantra and it keeps us involved in a steady stream of upgrade projects.
My company as a global brand is involved in several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. The major factors that affect my company is technology. Technology can both enhance and complicate our CSR efforts. On one hand, advancements in technology allows my company to innovate sustainable solutions, improve transparency, and engage with stakeholders and customers effectively. On the other hand, technology can exacerbate personal communication, and create ethical dilemmas (e.g., data privacy concerns). Concerning the use of technology in communication most companies need to continuously adapt their strategies to leverage on technology for positive impact while mitigating its negative consequences.
Technological advancements have become a driving force behind organizational transformation. Businesses that fail to adapt may find themselves left behind by their more innovative competitors. For instance, the rise of e-commerce platforms and online marketplaces has reshaped the retail industry, changing how consumers shop and leading to the emergence of digital-first businesses. Insights: Technological advancements can enable organizations to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reach a broader customer base. Embracing new technologies can lead to competitive advantages and innovation. Like my company We’re working to bring all necessary technologies in place to aid our services and improve customers satisfaction.
Socially conscious businesses often attract loyal customers who support their mission.
Rapid changes in political landscapes can create unpredictability, hindering long-term planning. New regulations may require organizations to allocate resources and adapt their processes.
Most times theses factors will tend to have negative impact in an Organisation leading to;
Price inflation
Rigidity in business operations.
Technology, competition, social and political changes will always be a global issue. In my organization, changes in technology, competition and political changes have always played a key role in determining the success of organisational goal. This is because there are changes in policies, rules, regulations, strong competition from rival organization and innovation of new technology. As such, one needs to adapt to the changes, learn about the new technology as it comes, adhere to the policies , rules and regulations of government authorities in order to be successful.
